A pop-culture blog article about 2010's One-Hit Wonders | https://popcrush.com/2010s-one-hit-wonders/?utm_source=tsmclip&utm_medium=referral

An excerpt:
"What constitutes a one-hit wonder is not necessarily the absence of other successful songs in an artist's discography, but the presence of a singular hit song so big that in the eyes of the general public, it may define one's career. That's not to say one-hit wonder artists have not gone on to find a devoted audience and achieve career longevity. Often times, a one-hit wonder is a perfect launching pad for a career in entertainment, whether as a musician or even an actor, DJ or YouTube star."

Some of your faves that made the cut:

La Roux:

Spoiler

"UK-based synth-pop act La Roux (Elly Jackson and Ben Langmaid) experienced major success with “Bulletproof,” which peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 (and No. 1 in the UK) in 2010. The single’s accompanying self-titled album went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album in 2011. After Langmaid’s departure from the group, Jackson released La Roux’s second album, Trouble in Paradise, in 2014, which peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard 200. La Roux’s third album, Supervision, is out February 7, 2020."

Rebecca Black:

Spoiler

"Despite the general negative reaction towards “Friday,” Rebecca Black turned the viral success of the track into a career. The track, which peaked at No. 58 in the United States, gained traction due to its tacky lyrics and low-budget music video, which has over 100 million views on YouTube. The song was covered by the Glee cast, Justin Bieber, Jimmy Fallon and Katy Perry, who even featured Black in the music video for her No. 1 hit “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).” Since the song’s success, Black has maintained a successful career as a YouTuber and independent musician; she currently has 1.46 million subscribers on YouTube."

Icona Pop:

Spoiler

"Icona Pop’s “I Love It,” written by and featuring vocals from Charli XCX, was absolutely everywhere in 2013. It charted in the top ten in over ten countries, received widespread critical acclaim and was placed in numerous television shows, commercials and movies. The hit was featured on the duo’s 2013 album This Is… Icona Pop, which peaked at No. 36 on the Billboard Hot 100. The duo have since toured the world with the likes of Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and One Direction, and released many singles including collaborations with DJs Afrojack and R3bab as well as fellow Swedish artist Tove Lo. Icona Pop have also appeared in two films from the Trolls franchise as the voices of Satin and Chenille, twin trolls attached by the hair. Most recently, the duo released “Next Mistake,” the first single from their forthcoming third studio album."

Foxes:

Spoiler

"After the success of “Clarity,” which peaked at No. 8 in the United States and won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording, Zedd has gone on to have many hits (“Stay” with Alessia Cara, “The Middle” with Maren Morris and Grey), but what is the vocalist on the track up to now? U.K. singer Foxes hasn’t found extreme success as a solo artist following the collaboration in the United States, but her two albums, Glorious and All I Need, have charted at numbers five and twelve respectively in her home country. Foxes hasn’t released any new music since 2016, but in April of 2019, she posted on Twitter that she’s “working on something really special” that she “can’t wait to share” with her fans."

Kiesza:

Spoiler

"Achieving an international hit single with “Hideaway” was just one path explored by Canadian singer Kiesza, who, previous to her music career, served in the Canadian Navy and competed in the Miss Universe Canada pageant. In 2014, her deep house debut single rose to the top of the charts all over Europe and hit No. 51 in the United States. Since the single’s accompanying album, Sound of a Woman, was released the same year, Kiesza has continuously put out singles as well as a 2018 EP with DJ Chris Malinchak. Most recently, on January 10, 2020, Kiesza released her latest single, “When Boys Cry.”"

I’m so excited for the new La Roux album. Trouble in Paradise was such a monumental album for me when it came out in 2014. I can’t believe it’s been 6 years already. Come through Elly! I can’t wait for it to be released!
