Bloomberg surpasses Buttigieg in national poll

Democratic presidential hopeful Michael Bloomberg hit double digits in a new Morning Consult poll on Tuesday, marking the latest sign of his campaign's growing support since launching in November.

Twelve percent of Democratic primary voters supported Bloomberg in the poll, putting the former New York City mayor above former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg at 7 percent, businessman Andrew Yang at 5 percent and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) at 3 percent.

Former Vice President Joe Biden led the field with 29 percent support, followed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) at 23 percent. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) rounded out the poll's top three spots with 14 percent support.

The survey is the latest sign that Bloomberg's massive advertising campaign appears to be paying off in the polls.

Bloomberg, a billionaire who is not fundraising, has already spent $270 million on advertising across the country ahead of the primary contests.

Bitter irony to see Pete and Warren starting to sink.

I am tired of seeing his ads constantly on TV.

He's just proving ads are effective and he's getting name recognition too.

Effective is a strong word, he's pumped 30x as much money into adverts as his nearest competitor, and it can only do so much.

Well he literally started his campaign 2 months ago and is now in 4th place (RCP avg). And he wasn't in people's heads before that. It's quite impressive.

And it's not just one poll: Bloomberg is now above Buttigieg in the rolling poll averages being tracked by aggregators like RCP and FiveThirtyEight. He's vastly outspent everyone else, including Steyer - but it's kind of interesting that Steyer has also spent so much money AND been on all of the debate stages and yet has so, so little to show for it. He's not going to get anything out of Iowa or New Hampshire; I think Bloomberg's strategy of ignoring the early states and going straight to Super Tuesday seems to be working better.

I'm not saying that it hasn't been an impressive rise, but if you had limited resources (like the other candidates) it'd be a terrible idea to spend all your money on ads like he has. We're talking like 150 Million on ads alone.

Correct. He’s not even campaigning in the first 4 primary states. He’s skipping right to Super Tuesday states.
