Do you think superdelegates are consistent with democratic elections?

Do you think the electoral college should stay?

Superdelegates have not tipped a primary race in favor of a candidate in modern history.

The Democratic National Committee took steps ahead of the 2020 presidential election to eliminate the potential for superdelegates to decide the nomination. The committee stripped voting power from the party elite and now allows only the delegates elected in primaries and caucuses to choose the presidential nominees unless there's a need for a tie-breaker.

No and no but :

1. Until something like superdelegates turning around an election happens, Bernie camp is just creating drama.

2. It wont change soon.

Look, I'm not going to convince you of something you don't want to believe.

If you don't think its problematic that the people nominated to high positions of power and whose job will be to decide the democratic platform and the nominee should it come down to superdelegates have almost all unilaterally agreed that it should NOT be a specific candidate, that's your prerogative.

I personally, beyond this, just don't think we should have people who are think tank members, misinformation disseminators,  people who have covered up for torture and war crimes, wall street bankers, corporate lobbyists, etc. deciding the future of our party, let alone putting their thumb on the scales in any way or another. I don't believe in continuing endless wars, I don't believe that trade deals should be written with the priorities of multinational powerful corporations over that over average everyday workers, I don't believe that money in politics should continue to be the norm, I don't believe in toppling other countries governments for our own economic gain. These people do, so I don't see that as consistent with Democratic values. I also don't think that they should be trying to influence the will of the people in a way that only serves to maintains their power, but rather openly encouraging people to vote for what they believe in, and willing to work with whoever the nominee is.

It would be different if Bernie's goals were to turn America into Venezuela, but instead he is suggesting... making healthcare a human right :rip: Like, its truly quite telling that what they actually oppose are common sense measures that just improve our social safety net (but lose them money).

So even with the Bernie surge at the ideal time, even with moderates continuing to split their vote, even with Bloomberg getting ready to make life hard for Biden, people here still expect that Bernie wont get the votes he needs so it will all be decided at the end by some superdelegates? :ladyhaha:

Just get the votes u need, people. Stop creating so much drama, Bernie.

Hillary lost for many reasons - one being that she was deeply unpopular, even by Democrats standards.

However, it is unfortunate that things like Benghazi, Emails, conspiracy theories, and fake news affected her, would you agree?

If you are a voter whose primary focus is beating Donald Trump, it should concern you that the DNC itself is running attack ads against a candidate that falsely claim he is unelectable in a general election. They don't want you to consider him as viable - not because he isn't actually viable, but because they don't want him to be the president. If Joe Biden loses the general election, and there's a decent chance Bernie would have won, it will be the DNC's fault for misleading the electorate towards a candidate that was especially susceptible in the general (again)

Btw, the nominee would assume control over the DNC as soon as they are nominated. That means that the bulk of the people at the DNC currently would likely be out of jobs and influence. Of course they would fight to keep their jobs :rip: Idk how you can argue that they wouldn't act in self-preservation, most people would.

this is bad but like....don't think it will matter in the end. He can probably get enough delegates to just win. Or grab some from warren & other candidates rather than the superdelegates.

The committee chairs are bad. If he can't form the platform to his vision it's going to be ridiculous. But in the end all that matters is getting the votes in the house & senate to pass bills. What democrats campaign & vote on and what the "official platform" are have nothing to do with each other as far as I'm aware. Look at Bernie. He's campaigning for Dems as an independent on policies only he supports in the party.

Anyway **** the DNC but these are VERY surmountable issues.

Yea. All the things you mention were reasons why she lost.  There are others too that I dont really want to mention again because I dont want to start another subject around "why Hillary lost?".

However, her popularity is a complicated subject. At the start of her campaign she was popular. She lost part of her popularity until the actual vote, but that's again another discussion that it is better not to start, especially here.

If this many people in politics are against Bernie, I think those of us who are not in politics should pay close attention.

I'm starting to get a vibe that Bernie has wronged a lot of his peers and is just overall a bad egg despite his goals for America. He's also much too old to be president. You can't even fight me on that. He'll be dead before his policies are ever in place.

This isn't true at all. This is what media narratives want you to believe. Similarly, Hillary Clinton did nothing wrong re: Benghazi, Emails, etc. but the Trump campaign disseminated so much negative media, true or not, that the intended effect was that even democrats would go "well, there seems to be a lot of bad stuff out there, some of it has to be true?" - thats just a human cognitive bias at work. We believe the existence of lies implies a truth, which is fallacious.

Bernie has been well respected in Congress for years, and hasn't wronged any of his peers, unless you think that running for president against Hillary Clinton was "wronging" her, in which case every person that has ever run for president has wronged the other candidates by virtue of running :emma:

About age,... people can live to be pretty old these days, someone being old does not mean they will be dead in 4 years by virtue of being old itself, thats unscientific. Bernie could live to be 90 for all we know, hes not likely to keel over tomorrow randomly :rip: But if that is truly your concern, then it would be unfortunate to note that the establishment frontrunning candidate that they are pushing, Joe Biden, is just 1 year younger than he is... but on the other hand, Joe Biden doesnt seem capable of stringing together sentences without going off topic and appearing senile, and Bernie is discussing complex political issues at rallies on the daily, so if we had to go based off of what we see in their behavior, one of them is arguably better than the other

People in politics are afraid of Bernie because he can win, not because he would lose.

So would you agree that negative media can decrease voter turn out and change people's minds - even when it is all lies that should be fought against?
