Mister G 10,428
Some of ya’ll are literal garbage. I just went there. I don’t care if I get reported either. There’s a time and a place for everything. The select few that have been posting vile and hostile commentary on here, you need to do some soul-searching and evaluate if your lives are so perfect that you have to drag a man’s name through the dirt more than ever now that he’s deceased. I saw the same thing with Michael Jackson in 2009, and the same with Whitney Houston in 2012. I’m amazed that people always bring up the bad legacy and remind everyone they shouldn’t feel sorrow because they did something awful. So, with that being said since Gaga posted about Kobe why don’t you self-appointed heroes go after Jennifer Lopez, all the news outlets, everyone in Los Angeles, all the basketball teams, all the other celebrities like Viola Davis, Niecy Nash, Joe Biden, Kareem Abdul-Jamar, Rob Gronkowski, AOC, Barack Obama, Tom Brady, let’s see who else oh Walt Disney Corporation tweeted something as well, Taylor Swift, Chrissy Teigen, not to mention all the countless other politicians and celebrities across the globe. Oh don’t forget to go after your family and friends mourning the lose of Kobe and the other families that were killed in the crash.

He admitted to a sexual encounter with the 19 year old who alleged he assaulted her but there are a lot of loopholes in the story. Not saying she’s lying but her reputation and credibility got dismissed because her recollection of the details kept getting mixed up, and ultimately she chose not to testify in court. They dropped the criminal case but she filed a civil lawsuit a year later that was settled out of court. He was never found guilty of the sexual assault (this is one of those cases where we will never know what really happened because we weren’t there). Franch Toast 26,872
Kobe has a complicated legacy, and so people are going to have complicated and mixed reactions to his passing. There are lots of other celebrity figures about whom I could say the same. I don't follow sports at all, but even I know he meant a lot to many people in terms of his professional legacy. Because I don't follow sports, I didn't even recall that he was accused of rape – as @LilyLark mentioned, maybe Gaga didn't know or remember this, either. Regardless of his complicated legacy, a woman lost her husband and daughter, and there are three girls who lost their father and sister. Mourning for that family doesn't negate anyone's support for sexual assault survivors. Let's also mourn for the families of the other victims of the crash. What a terrifying way to die, and how awful to be a parent knowing that your child is about to die alongside you, and there's nothing you can do to prevent it. That's every parent's worst nightmare and a damn tragedy! Gaga has a right to express her condolences, just as others have a right to their own responses. The woman whom he allegedly raped is probably feeling all sorts of complicated and awful things right now too. I hope this wasn't triggering for her. It's possible to feel empathy for her but also empathy for Kobe's family and to mourn that his death was a loss for many people and institutions. Life isn't black-and-white, unless you're a zebra. I don't think the accuser's feelings should be ignored, and I disagree with that Washington Post reporter being suspended for Tweeting about the alleged sexual assault. But I think that people also have a right to grieve for his family and his legacy, as tainted as it may be. You're allowed to feel upset that people are mourning him, but people are also allowed to mourn him. You can be disappointed in Gaga for her Tweet, but she's allowed to express her feelings, and others are allowed to agree with her sentiment. Maleficent 6
a sweet sentiment. not sure i totally understand her prose (about reincarnation specifically—the idea always makes me feel uncomfortable) but I’m glad she took a moment to give a nod to Kobe’s cultural impact (complicated legacy aside)
