“I'm not homophobic. I just think 'f*gg*t' hits and hurts people. It hits. And 'gay' just means you're stupid. I don't know, we don't think about it, we're just kids. We don't think about that ****.” Said the person now lecturing others on the problematic nature of the word “urban,” after building a career off of homophobic slurs and trolling about his sexuality.

The Grammy's suck but he should have made this point while giving his speech if he actually cared. Or better yet, he should've boycotted the Grammy's like his peers to show that he doesn't the validation of the awards.

Igor was an awful album. Tyler is one of the only artists who've never released one single song that I've even remotely liked. He should be honored he even won rap album of the year since ****ing Meek Mill was much more deserving.

He said some awful things ten years ago. he certainly did not build a career of homophobic slurs, don't you think others would have capitalised on their homophobia if it were that easy? he built a career off music. if trolling about his sexuality is joking about it and being ambiguous because it's difficult to be a member of the LGBT community in the rap game, then sure. as of 2017 he has been open about his attraction to men.

I certainly don't stand by his use of the f word back in (2009, 2010?), but he has totally grown past that and hasn't said **** like that in nearly ten years. He can't take back things he said years ago, but he's not like that anymore and is doing the next best thing in showing his support for minorities and making statements such as these.

His use of homophobic slurs was not just in his art, when one of his female queer peers released an open letter addressing his problematic language this was his homophobic and sexist response:

His use of homophobic slurs certainly didn't stop a decade ago as you suggested. Search his twitter time line there are literally hundreds of homophobic, racist, transphobic, and disgusting tweets that are from a few years ago.

I feel like you've missed the entire essence of what he was saying which is that he hates that people of color get boxed into a category no matter what style of music they put out.

I feel like you missed the part where Tyler The Creator is arguably the last person on Earth who is in a position to lecture any institution or individual about problematic language and how it effects POC. His entire public persona was built on his "shocking" use of slurs. Those four tweets are a tiny selection of many, many, many, problematic tweets.

If I need a good biscuit recipe I'll call Paula Deen. If I want to listen to an Urban Outfitters rap album I'll call Tyler The Creator. If I want to know what kind of lip gloss to wear at Coachella I'll call James Charles. I won't be calling any of them to hear their take on how problematic language can negatively effect minorities.

Here is a piece written by a queer POC who respects Tyler's work but thinks he should still be held accountable for his years of deeply problematic statements.

Does that mean he’s not allowed to speak up for POC??

You just saw a tweet from a man saying he rapes women until they look like “ch*nks” and your response is, yeah but sometimes he says good things?

No. Tyler The Creator should not be a respected authority on any social justice issue. A broken clock is right twice a day.

That was definitely not my response but if that's what you got from it then good for you. As a gay POC I'm stating my position which is that I can appreciate ANYONE speaking up for POC. Whatever he's said/done in his past doesn't affect my life in anyway just like what Camila Cabello, Kevin Hart and many other celebrities have said in their past doesn't. Doesn't mean I support them or their career but I can and will support anything pro-poc.

I'm just going to say that no matter how you feel about Tyler or anything he has said or done doesn't change the fact that he didn't lie.

If you want to pat a man on the back who literally said “I think rape is fun” for making one good point, be my guest.
