Sis it's a trope as old as time ...."black folks waiting in the wings to destroy white folks." This FOX story plays into it a lot. Hate Obama all you want, I don't give a f*ck, but please recognize how problematic this angle is—progressives of color who don't even like Obama have called it out in the past, too, when it's occasionally come out.

Again, the fact that FOX even runs with this angle should be telling, too.

That's not what's happening here. Lord, people love to run with identity politics all the time. Same way people swear we dislike Clinton because she's a woman :rip:

We can all play that game. Anyone who dislikes Sanders is an anti-Semite, I guess.

Girl, get a poli sci degree cuz its getting embarassing at this point. Also, far-left and liberals in the same sentence is literally an oxymoron

Let me help you sort it out, from wikipedia:

The spectrum of left-wing politics ranges from center-left to far-left (or ultra-left). The term center-left describes a position within the political mainstream. The terms far-left and ultra-left refer to positions that are more radical. The center-left includes social democrats, social liberals, progressives and also some democratic socialists and greens (including some eco-socialists) [LIKE BERNIE] Center-left supporters accept market allocation of resources in a mixed economy with a significant public sector and a thriving private sector. Center-left policies tend to favour limited state intervention in matters pertaining to the public interest.

In several countries, the terms far-left and radical left have been associated with varieties of communism, autonomism and anarchism. [UNLIKE BERNIE] They have been used to describe groups that advocate anti-capitalism or eco-terrorism. In France, a distinction is made between the left (Socialist Party and Communist Party) and the far-left (Trotskyists, Maoists and anarchists).[86] The United States Department of Homeland Security defines left-wing extremism as groups that want "to bring about change through violent revolution rather than through established political processes".[87]

Okay, it's FOX. You really don't think FOX has a racist undertone....and you really don't recognize the idea that a Black man is secretly plotting to take down a white man, with no proof, is gross af and the fact that the conservatives are the ones mostly pushing this angle is suspect as h*ll.

And you are twisting my words. I said you can hate Obama all you want. Hating Obama doesn't make you a racist. I said you can dislike someone, without falling for racist tropes.

I don't disagree with your precautions about Fox. I'm disagreeing with the idea that it's always some trope. It's the same thing Hillary Clinton supporters spew all day long without it necessarily being true.

Last night I was at dinner with about 10 other people, including moderate Democrats and moderate Republicans (as well as a few far-right conservatives; no socialists were present). Naturally the conversation turned to politics at some point.

The consensus - not just majority opinion, consensus - was that they'd feel comfortable voting for Biden and maaaybe Klobuchar, but their strong preference is actually Bloomberg. Someone with business acumen, a strong personality, and a lot of experience without Biden's advanced age.

These are people who hate Trump and want pretty much any reason to vote against him - but the economy is doing well and they just don't agree that our entire economy, government, and way of life need to be flipped on their head like Sanders wants to. Maybe because they're all adults with jobs...

We need to put forward a moderate Democratic alternative to Trump or Trump will win with very little trouble.

Just because you were at dinner with a bunch of well-off people doesn’t indicate the general feeling among millions of Americans living paycheck to paycheck who are politically apathetic and won’t vote unless a candidate that can actually change the status quo is on the ballot. Exciting voters with new policies rather than settling with whatever can “beat Trump” is the better strategy. The part in bold is sickening and a Right wing talking point used to denigrate Sanders supporters. Really disappointing to see it coming from you.

As an adult in college with a job as well, I can tell you that I too also went out with some older friends, average age around 35 this past weekend to a techno club :huntyga: and all of them are adults with jobs who admittedly “don’t give a **** about politics” but could get behind Sanders and admire his personality. How about that for a consensus?

Have you seen the conspiracy theories the right endorses and regurgitate??

Need I even mention QAnon or the whole Deep State and absolutely atrocious things they believe??

But somehow the "far left" who you consistently demean is akin to that. Not to mention you make this sweeping generalization about all progressives and "Far Leftists" based on some anecdotes and a few people who go overboard because people like you are constantly targeting and undermining them.

Wow, so apparently one anecdote suddenly gets to be used as a broad sweeping generalization for how all Americans are! Who would have known.

I guess to hell with actual science and representative samples, or the millions and millions of Americans who are hurting and not seeing this "great economy" that you and MSM love to talk about.

Hate to break it to you, but just because a few well-off people you had dinner with feel great about things, doesn't mean that's how every or even most Americans feel, or reperesent how all Americans feel about the candidates. Last I checked Wall Street profits and the stock market are not good indicators for how the average American is doing.

Also the fact that wages are super low and have shown little- to no movement all the while corporate profits have soared.

It's quite ironic you saying that certain talking points aren't facts when you're constantly spewing and throwing around conservative talking points that are pushed by the MSM and people like you as "facts".

We so called "Far Left liberals" can see right through this **** because these are the same arguments that were used last time for why we needed Hillary to be the candidate and why she was the best to beat Trump. And the sad thing is I fell for this in 2016 and believed that. And how'd that turn out?

And don't give me the same tired argument people like to pivot to that she won the popular vote blah blah blah when we all know that's completely irrelevant in the face of how you win the American presidency. Fact is she lost, including in states that a Democrat hasn't lost in decades, for being a weak, unpopular candidate, who failed to energize the Democratic base and get them out.

Yet what you take from that loss is to take basically the same candidate (an establishment politician who won't energize anyone) and put him up against a populist candidate like Trump who energizes his fanatic base and raises endless sums of money.

Good luck with that! You couldn't be more out-of-touch and brainwashed by conservative MSM talking points though. :ohwell:

Going to have to leave it here, because I normally enjoy your points and I don't want this to get contentious. But yeah, it's absolutely a racist trope—a common trope at that— just like the media  sometimes plays into anti-semitic tropes about Bernie or sexist tropes about Warren. There's a reason the ones who keep running with this angle tend to be the conservative news outlets/commentators in their attempt to divide the party (they could take other angles in their attempt to divide the party, but the fact they've glommed on this one is telling), and I've literally only seen one non conservative reporter run with it (and it was quickly shut down by Obama and other Democratic sources).

Nice anecdotal evidence. :laughga:

How did putting forward a moderate Democratic alternative work out in 2016?
