You're not trans and you can't make that assumption. You're missing the fact that these people have likely encountered WAY more verbal and probably physical abuse, especially since they're trans women of color, than you probably ever will. people have breaking points and people have to stand up for themselves sometimes and teach the bigot a lesson. Otherwise, the bigots walk away thinking the behavior is justified, or worse, effective and they continue to exhibit it towards any transperson. Life isn't that black and white, that violence isn't the answer. The global gay rights movement started because of violence one night at Stonewall in New York City. Never forget that.

Violence is only the answer if it's for self-defense. I would say that the rioters at Stonewall defended themselves against the police, so their violence was justified.

Copout answer. I distinctly remember your posts in the “should you tell someone you’re trans in a relationship”  saying you weren’t trans. You also proceeded to make crass comments regarding the genitalia of trans people in that thread but regardless, I would argue that they were using violence for self defense. These men were verbally attacking them and getting in their personal space. That necessitates self defense.

I edited my comment because I realized it was a childish response. I have a hard time seeing how physical attacks are a justified response to verbal attacks. 

Also, I'm curious, what crass comments have I made about transgender peoples genitalia?

The dude wasn’t only being verbal though. Again you have likely never experienced FREQUENT verbal abuse. People can only take so much. And if someone was being this verbally abusive, then it’s more than enough to tick someone off who’s experienced a lifetime of oppression. It’s VERY easy for you to say violence is never the answer, again, when you have never walked in their shoes. Considering the rise in murders against trans women across the US, it is likely that someone who is this persistent at berating transwomen could potentially physically harm them. It’s not safe for trans women and they should stick up for themselves to let these bigots know that they’re behavior is unacceptable. 

I probably shouldn’t have mentioned your comments in the other thread since it was off topic but that was how I remembered and knew you weren’t trans. Crass comments, which I make a lot of, aren’t always bad. Yours weren’t rude

I don't say the violence is never the answer. Otherwise, I agree, people have a breaking point. And I'm sure these women, reached that breaking point. I have never doubted that. But as I said in a previous comment, those women are clearly tough and know how to handle themselves. So if those men had tried to attack them, I'm sure they would be able to defend themselves. Unless of course, the men had had weapons. In that case there sadly wouldn't have been much they could do, no matter what.
