I heard it can mutate very fast... (reminded me of the game plague) On 1/22/2020 at 10:13 PM, eevie said: bc it’s basically lethal and it can spread from human to human. that’s the tweet. I have flight tickets to China (Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong) for May and I'm concerned now since I'm planning everything... I thought it's kind of a rough influenza. I'm 27 and get rarely sick. I though the people dying are children and elders, as well as people with weak immune system. Edit: According to the live tracker there are cured people. https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6

However, we still have no idea of when this mess will be over, and your trip would be impossible with a quarantine in action ☄️ Before there was love, there was silence 🌌

I will just keep on planning and hope they find a quick cure, or hope things get calmer. Kind of sounds like an exaggeration to me too but since they are locking the city it's seems really serious. Since around 500 reported cases and there lives 11.080.000 million there. edit: It's actually 941 reported cases now. ****.

Just wait and see what happens, and if it's too dangerous at that point, then you can change your travel plans. I'm supposed to go to Hong Kong in March, and I'm only slightly nervous at this point. Anyway, at this point, the virus has spread beyond China, so in a way, what does it matter? She/Her/Hers

Yeah, it's only I have to travel half the country to provide my visa application which will cost me a lot of money and time off work maybe in 1 month. Yeah, I will go for it and see what happens. Oh, that's really close. I hope it gets better before you travel. True. I bet they will find a cure relatively quickly since it's 70% equal to previous viruses. Also would maybe use those mouth masks and keep a distance to others, wash hands etc. And the first reported death apparently was a 71 year old man. I'm not so worried about Hong Kong to be honest, but time will tell. Good thing I have my Enigma face mask to protect me (no joke, the Enigma M&G swag bag included a face mask)! Thanks, Gaga, for keeping me safe & healthy! I hope you're able to still take your trip! I used to live in China, including Shanghai, and loved it! I'm really excited and anxious (due to the language and my first solo travel) haha. Btw, how are Han Chinese regarding to homosexuality? The good thing is that same-sex platonic friendships in China tend to be very affectionate, so you can show affection to other people of the same sex quite easily without people blinking an eye. The flip side of that is that people won't necessarily connect that with being gay. I had gay friends who could openly show affection toward each other (short of making out) in public, and people assumed they were just good friends. When I first lived in China, I think people were more close-minded. I used to teach English there, and one of my students came out to me, but he didn't want any of his classmates to know, and his mom still kept trying to set him up with women. He since left China and moved to the Netherlands. I think it's much better now, but it depends on where you are and who you're around. My contacts in China tend to mostly be artists and intellectuals who are very open-minded and accepting, and I have several gay friends living in the mainland who are able to live their lives fairly openly. Still, mainland China is not as advanced in this regard as Hong Kong, and Taiwan (which just legalized marriage equality) is even better – Taiwan's probably the best place in Asia for gay people. But I'm a straight woman, so I can only go based off what I've seen and off of friends' experiences. I don't have first-hand experience in this regard. I hope you get to go. The food is excellent, though I don't care much for Shanghainese food (too sweet!) – I love the food in Beijing though, and Hong Kong is one of the best food cities in the world. You're right it has been elderly people so far, in some cases no different to those who are normally at risk of things like the flu.
