I don't even like Pete, but he worked at McKinsey for a brief spell and I believe it wasn't even during the same time that the Canadian company hired McKinsey. The bread fixing thing went on for like fifteen years, but apparently McKinsey was only part of it towards the latter half.

Ziggy 14,051
17 hours ago, BARCODE said: Honestly it's funny to me that everyone calling a gay mayor millenial from a small mid-sized Indiana town in a red state is the establishment of the Democratic Party, and Bernie, a white straight male, who is so old he is near death and has been playing the "alt-card" for decades in federal power is somehow magically not part of the machine. Bernie is "alt" in the way there was that one kid in the popular group in high school that was still a little edgy. Ultimately...he's still been hanging around the problem for decades and he is human. Yall think Bernie can beat Drumpf? Doubt it. He isnt as big as he was in 2016. He is literally in poor physical health already. And all it will take is for the GOP to use the "scary socialist" word to frighten middle of the road voters....voters who mostly primarily live in the midwest...the states most important to beat Drumpf. I'm from Ohio. And I'm telling you, my blue collar friends and family from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and Pennsylvania will ultimately swing towards supporting a second term president with a "good economy" than go stump for a dude with heart issues and suggests borderline socialist policies. Yall from the East and West coasts think in terms of the East and West Coast and think people are warming up to those ideas....there they are...but ultimately the rust belt of swing states will not vote in Bernie at this time. It just ain't gonna happen. I dont care what the polls say. The only liberal enough places in the midwest to ever vote that way across the board are Chicago, Illinois and Columbus, Ohio. That being said....Iowa was the 2nd state to pass gay marriage. Buttigieg is literally from Indiana....a state that borders Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, and Illinois. And him being a military vet only works in his favor even more. There might be some evangelical nutjobs....but the midwest is way more down with the gays than they are socialism. To the average swing state voter I just think more people are willing to look past "reserved gay" than "dying socialist". So you're strategic suggestion is to pander to the blue collar white folk who are a shrinking demographic, less likely to swing democrat anyway, and who couldn't give two sh**s about race record when it has been proven that the path forward for democrats is to court minorities? The electoral map is changing. The era of a unified rustbelt just plainly isn't a viable one anymore. It worked for Trump because he had the red strongholds as well, but if you peel away or become competitive in the states Trump swung in 2016, you could very easily win without full rustbelt support. Trump won by trying a new strategy (going after the rustbelt; something republicans never did in earnest in the preceding decades). Democrats need to try the same thing. Also don't speak for the whole midwest lol that's 6 states' worth of population. I'm also from there, plenty of people like Bernie and his policies because for just as many that support red and hate 'socialism', there's just as many who literally only vote the way they do because they listen to what a candidate says about jobs or people's basic livelihoods. For instance, Klobuchar *could* do very well, but for example, when she starts talking about healthcare she starts to get in the weeds. Bernie, by contrast, has mastered his discussion of it so that (whether or not you agree with it) it resonates based on how simply he can talk about it. No one wants to hear about tax credits and deductibles because, frankly, for plenty of people it's too technical. A democrat isn't going to win trying to peel away Trump supporters, they win by peeling independents, many of whom despise Trump but hated Hillary more and loved Bernie. I don't see Buttigieg attracting independents in droves or minorities so I'm not seeing where his long-term viability as a candidate is. I agree that in the midwest the gay thing is not as big a deal as some make it to be, but I think he purely does not excite enough to get votes in droves and one reason for that is how he frames himself. To some, they love his poise, to others, it sounds like a traditional dem candidate when it is evidenced that those candidates are not exciting voters the way radical ones are (by radical, I mean, not traditional picks to run i.e. Trump, Sanders, people like that). As evidenced by 2016, the people who swung to Trump who were not out and out alt-rights, were not dirty racist pricks. They didn't care about that stuff and liked hearing a message from someone who they felt heard their issues. A dem candidate needs to do that for both disenfranchised white people and people of color and connect the narrative. That's something Bernie does very very well. For whatever faults he has, he does a very good job painting a narrative and, frankly, kind of like you said, seems cool. It doesn't matter if he's "establishment" or not (though I wouldn't say he is since he's more often than not independent and not a dem), but how he can handle optics. He cuts through crap well and in a battle of charisma (which is basically what an election is about), he can hold a candle to Trump the used car salesman. The only other democrat with that inherent star power is AOC (no, I don't want her to run when she's old enough, just pointing it out). Even Trump acknowledged that they got it. Dems need a star of their own. Where Hillary tried to replicate Obama, she couldn't manufacture that wattage that he had and it's no secret that in today's day and age, the image is critical. Harris Walz 2024 1,451
NYP: Pete Buttigieg leads in New Hampshire ahead of primary vote: poll Buttigieg has the edge. A surging Pete Buttigieg has nudged ahead of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in a daily tracking poll of New Hampshire Democrats — with just three days to go before its first-in-the-nation presidential primary. The former mayor of South Bend, Ind., is at 25% in the Boston Globe/WBZ/Suffolk University tracking poll released Friday night, just after the Democrats wrapped up their debate in Manchester, N.H. That was one percentage point ahead of the 24% won by Sanders in the same survey. Buttigieg — at 38, the youngest candidate in the race — has gained 11 points in the poll since his strong performance in Monday’s Iowa caucuses, where he claimed victory despite the vote-count chaos that left the results in doubt for days. Much of his gain came at the expense of Vice President Joe Biden, the national front-runner who flopped in the caucuses with a fourth-place finish. Biden, at 11% in the Suffolk University poll, could see the same result in New Hampshire, where Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) is notching 14% in the survey. Both Sanders and Buttigieg took fire from their rivals in Friday night’s debate. Mike Bloomberg was not in the poll because he is not on the primary ballot. ----------------------------- Pete is pretty much shutting down Biden's candidacy. I suspect Amy ticks up a notch or two after the debate. Sanders support looks to have plateaued.

freebit 6,264
This propaganda the media spews is so transparent. First Biden, and now that its over they're all running like rats to Pete and Amy. I felt like I was in another universe and saw a completely different debate when the talking heads starting to discuss how great Pete did last night. The fact that it took Chris Christie of all people to snap everyone back to reality... and they had nothing to say after he stated the facts about him getting his ass handed to him by Linsey Davis.
