Jokes aside I actually really do like the guitar on that song! It's a very nice song, but it also has a message that you'll find in a lot of other pop songs. This didn't place too high in my rankings because I thought there were songs that had a unique voice that needed to be highlighted.

#13: Heartbreaker (1978)

        Dolly-Parton-Heartbreaker-Banner-e151394

Average Score: 8.27

High Score: 10 @Ronk @KatieJudasGaga4 @Animal Claws

Low Score: 4 @Lois Griffin

Comments:

@Lois Griffin ~ “This song is okay, but it's just okay. I'm not surprised that she didn't write this one because although she makes it sound like a Dolly Parton song, I could see anyone singing this song. For another recording artist that might be fine, but for an artist that has a thousands songs that I could listen to there isn't a lot drawing me to turn on this one.”

Chart Information:

Canadian RPM Country Tracks: #1

Canadian RPM Top Singles: #41

Canadian RPM Adult Contemporary: #1

U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles: #1 (13 Weeks on Chart)

U.S. Billboard Hot 100: #37 (10 Weeks on Chart)

U.S. Adult Contemporary: #12 (13 Weeks on Chart)

Song Information:

After the blockbuster success of the “Here You Come Again” era, much pressure was on Parton to follow up with another successful album cycle. Released as the lead single for the album of the same name, “Heartbreaker” alleviated much of RCA executives’ trepidations after it became a Top 40 pop hit in 1978. It was followed up by the Top 30 pop hit “Baby I’m Burnin’” released in the same year. The Heartbreaker album itself peaked at #1 (45 Weeks) and #27 (34 Weeks) on the U.S Hot Country Album Chart and Billboard 200 respectively. It also peaked at #20 on the Canadian RPM Top Albums in 1978 as well.

Why do I always forget to rate an 11 in megarates. :fail:

No, you did!

Remember, I followed up with you to check if you wanted anything to be an 11

I love the heartbreaker art. I'm listening to this song now and I'm enjoying it, but while listening to it in the context of a megarate I felt like I had to give it my lowest score.

It will always be Dolly's second best heartbreak song to me.
