Amidst the devastating wildfires spreading across Australia, up to 10,000 camels will be shot and killed following complaints that they are drinking too much water. The cull will begin Wednesday and last approximately five days.

Aboriginal officials in the remote, sparsely-populated northwest region of the South Australia province said the wild animals are endangering locals who are struggling to get enough water during a massive drought. Officials now plan to shoot and kill the camels in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands, they said in a statement Monday.

Officials said "extremely large groups of camels and other feral animals… are putting pressure on the remote Aboriginal communities in the APY Lands." They said the animals are threats to the community, consuming their scarce water and food supplies and endangering travelers.

I'm so sorry for this news I really am but I automatically pictured the government installing a cannon and shooting them.

Wtf! :saladga:

These lives could be saved if the whole world was notified and we all came together to do something. If I was rich I'd buy out the closest equivalent of Evian and ****ing ship it to them or something.

This is so sad and it breaks my heart.

Camels don't belong in Australia.

Same with cats, rabbits, foxes, cane toads and a few other animals that have been introduced by humans, set free, became feral and now pose an active danger/threat to the native australian flora, fauna and even humans. :/

A few native and even endemic species have already gone extinct because of introduced species, so while it's very sad, they should and have to be killed in order to ensure survival of Australia's native flora and fauna. :S

The latest dumb move by australian anti-climate government is to kill 10,000 camels because they drink too much water.

So humans not only **** up the planet with too much pollution and cause it to heat. Then when as a result of droughts water becomes more scarce, australians kill animals as a result, as if they're the problem.

Humans are the problem. Honestly I am sick of this problematic country that's called Australia. Not only they're 2nd biggest polluter per capita in the world, but their actions are really hostile towards environment.

Cattle also don't belong in Australia. How about they shut down their enormous grass-fed beef industry and stop deforesting their rainforests while they're at it.

So.. just out of curiousity, how would you handle this? What would you suggest to the Australian govt to do about the camels?
