Canada is the world's most social mobile Nation according to a study with Finland and Denmark not far behind

 

In Canada a poor person has a better shot of moving up the latter in wealth social class than anywhere else in the world. On the flip side in Canada a higher percentage of wealthy people loose that wealth especially when looking at generational weath (wealth of families over generations) 

 

In Canada social status is so mobile that 3/4 of people do not stay in the class they were born into. Coming from a wealthy, middle class or poor family has less impact on how wealthy you will be as an adult than anywhere else

 

Canada having the highest rate of post secondary education in the world (49%), and high paying sectors like the trades and construction that give opportunity for high income to those who did not have an opportunity to study makes it possible for many to climb up the wealth latter.

 

On the flip side, for whatever reason, many people born in well off families do not stay well off. A theory for this is that housing has become such an expensive asset with the housing crisis that a young person coming from a family of means will still struggle everyday costs if they don't find good paying work... a family can also have large real estate wealth which does nothing to benefit ones children unless they were to inherit it after parents death.

Also wow, that's really interesting! Like I know Canada is like great but that's an even better thing to add of my mental list of reasons why Canada is amazing 

On that flip side though, I can't image how stressful it would be for someone to find a super high paying job to afford to live like that

Depends how u define equality... Canada may have more opportunities for shifts between classes but the income gaps can still be quite huge

 

The top 1% and top 0.1% owning a huge portion of wealth is an issue here too nevertheless

 

I think the article is more refering to shifting between low income, low-middle class, middle class and upper middle class...

 

The very upper class remains filthy rich and too powerful

But as long as the class system is not permanent, and that people can move from low to middle, or middle to upper, or upper to low, and every combination in between, then that is my definition of equality. Not necessarily equality in the sense of equality of income distribution (the Gini coefficient) but equality of oppprtunity: Nobody is condemned to stay in the same class, no matter their abilities or how hard they try. In mathematics it’s called ergodicity, which essentially just means that nothing or no-one or no families stay in the same position forever. Everyone has equal probability of moving up, down, sideways, no matter where you start. Ergogic systems are very rare though.
