They chose the lead, doesn't mean the album was finished and finalized.

Wasnt this more down to how the whole ARTPOP era went down? Management etc.

Doesn’t need to be finalized to be scrapped. :enigma: If I made a 10 track album full of rough demos but I had a theme, a lead single chosen, maybe even a title track and then met a new producer and started working on a different album instead, that original one is still scrapped, even if one of the songs is reworked like on Joanne.

ACT 2 was scrapped because she didn’t want people to trash it like they did to ARTPOP. Nothing to do with management, as she was still teasing it months after she had a new manager and team.

She never said that LG5 would be dark. She only said that her role as the Countess inspired her to be fearless for her record. The first things she said about the album is that she wanted to erase the fame, return to her roots and that it felt like operating her old self's cadaver. Gaga's roots are her voice and her piano.

And just because they had a lead single doesn't mean that the album was close to be finished. Monster was supposed to be The Fame Monster's lead single, and yet it's the first song that they made for the album.

By the way, this is Gaga in december 2014, a few days after artRAVE's final show:

latest?cb=20141203164924

And yet none of the songs on Joanne were made until 2016, except for the Angel Down demo. And her wearing a cowboy hat once in 2014 (which she also did in other years of her career) doesn’t mean anything. I wish I could just throw up all my knowledge from Gaga 2014-2016 but I don’t have that time. Go on believing that there was never a scrapped album I really don’t care :enigma: Maybe I’ll make a thread about it one day.

I believe that the first concept (and I don't mean the one with DJWS still being in) has been abandoned and she went for something safer.

Didn't she say that LG5 was gonna be dark and based of her "The Countess" character? I don't think she was wearing anything related to the Joanne aesthetic in 2014/15

Frankenstein'd tho  even red one confirmed it, also that intel performance that got scrapped and stuff

Instead we got Joanne and that ugly David Bowie tribute that even his son hated and gaga erased from the face of earth:air:

I think gaga ruins things by overthinking them.

Exactly... she created Joanne in 5-6 months but my only critique of Joanne was that the bulk of it sounded like a bunch of demos :air:  I do wish she spent more time on that, or given us more songs like the OG LG5... but you're right. While I love ARTPOP, I think it was ruined by Gaga over thinking and overworking the album... I prefer many of the Demos to the studio released versions

The Bowie tribute was a mess :rip:

I guess she saved the best songs for ASIB which to me is clearly what Joanne should have been in the first place

It was like a beta test or something, she was preparing herself for ASIB and also got the super bowl thanks to that.

That was quite clever, i just dont know WHY she didnt reused/released ACT 2 or these red one dance bops that were "grammy worthy" as RO said.

She's sitting on TONS of unreleased bops and then releases things like Jewels and Drugs.. lmao its weird.

Do not disrespect Jewels and Drugs :trollga:  its a bop

But yeah, the amount of Material that Lady Gaga is just sitting on must be massive. Joanne was a short album... she could have put the Redone songs on the deluxe edition, or released a B side album. I don't think ACT 2 was ever completed, but we do know of at least 5 songs which never made ARTPOP. And then you've got the tones of songs she teased she was going to release before the JWT, the DJWS sessions that brought The Cure and outtakes from Joanne like "Deep Blue", and now possible scrapped songs from LG6

She worn the "cowbow hat" more than once in 2015, it was almost everyday, check out her Instagram

And she started working with Mark in November 2015, that doesn't mean that it was a whole new concept

The first song written for Joanne, 'Diamond Heart' was made in late spring (probably April) of 2016. It's true that Mark was going to work on her fifth record at the time, but the actual sound we heard on the album accumulated in the late spring season of the following year.

Let's also not forget that Elton John said there were songs she worked on in 2015 that sounded like Bad Romance and The Edge of Glory. She probably was going for a more rock-based sound, but that concept was abandoned sometime in 2016.

As time goes on, I kind of see why so many people think the sound for Joanne came about when the direction for ASIB was chosen in mid-2016. They do share some similarity.

I'm not going to say that the entire record was scrapped (because this is a common thing in the music making process) but most  of RedOne's work wasn't included on the record, probably for thematic reasons.

He actually said he heard TWO songs, one that sounded like Bad Romance (possibly Frankensteined) and the other like Yoü And I (a country-influenced ballad :enigma:). AND Gaga also wanted to release Frankensteined as the lead single for Joanne Part 2, which basically means that it fits the theme of the album. "Pieces back together like Frankenstein"

So since you know, why are you debating the idea that LG5 went through different changes, with the current Joanne being the result of 6 months of work? It's not a slight to the album since I defended it like crazy back in the day (and still do from time to time when I read stupid ****), but I'm curious why you're dismissive at the idea that she changed directions on the project? RedOne said these were electronic and synthpop songs?

As a matter of fact, it being acoustic and "analogue" in nature aside, Gaga never said why she specifically  went the folk-route for Joanne. She could have easily did a piano/ragtime based record with Elton John/ Bruce Springsteen-esque ballads and power anthems similar to Just Another Day and Diamond Heart. But even the imagery in the record refernces very specific folk and country themes. Like I said, I can see where some people are coming from with the ASIB/Joanne theories.
