Commissioning one singular artist to draw something is cheaper than hiring:

A model

A photographer

A make-up artist

A lighting director

The photo editors

And probably the dozen of other people that goes into creating a professional photoshoot. 

And let's not forget the cost of flying all these people to a singular location. 

It's not that an artist is worth less, but it is way, way cheaper, and another thing they wanted to emphasize with this issue is too pollute less. Have a sustainable magazine. 

I bet this magazine probably cost a tenth to make than usual. 

Also, let's not put down models and photographers, mmkay? You can have three people work in the same location, with the same model in the same clothes and make-up, and end up with three different photoshoots. Photography is not "click and shoot". It's very high effort. 

And models have to be people pleasers. Chameleons. They have to go with the flow, but also know when to stand up for themselves and make their own ideas known. 

Let's not put down one form of artistry to raise up another. I do both photography and drawing. They are equally difficult in their own ways.
