Joga 3,813
Which was more controversial: Alejandro or Judas? Which of these two career-highlights of our haus lavatory girl made more controversy on the general public back then? And this is for all terms, not just the song and the video, but its overall impact. Personally, Alejandro had more massive controversy because nobody expected the video to be THAT religious, and with upside-down crosses, gay soldiers, nun outfits, them rosary beads swallowed... she be fanatic about pissing everybody off and with Judas... people already expected controversy with that title unlike Alejandro with that goddamn video, but still it had everybody talking about it, especially pressed churches in my very religious country. 2 Spoiler And recently I saw the Alejandro music video file on my dad's hard drive which was titled "ladygagaofficial" and was downloaded during the time it was released I'm guessing he watched it secretly, I think dddddd GAGA || TAYLOR || BJÖRK || KENDRICK || LANA || NICKI || MADONNA || KANYE || BEYONCÉ || MARIAH || MCR || KATE || RINA || CHARLI || FIONA

Didymus 34,380
Definitely Alejandro for the easy reason that a lot more people were still paying attention to her music videos. This was during her commercial peak and so many people were just completely alienated by that video, it was wicked It felt like a big **** you to the people who were just enjoying her club hits and casually stanning for her because she was a fun freak. That video had a completely different tone and didn't even try to be a pop video, it was completely unexpected yet a complete, different vision (unlike Judas which felt more like a video trying to be controversial). It was also the first time she played with religion. Judas would replicate that and piss off a couple of extra Christians because it was so in your face, but all the talk (and criticism) about her use of religious symbols was already there with the Alejandro video. So I think it wins on all fronts. Judas was more a confirmation of everything everyone already knew about Lady Gaga. Alejandro was, imo, the last unexpected shock art triumph of her career (release wise).
xoxo Craig 55,649
I think Judas because of when it was released End Racism Now
KatieJudasGaga4 67,907
Obviously Judas. The Alejandro music video was controversial, but the song wasn't. Both the song and music video for Judas were very controversial.
Dominic 11,922
Judas - It was really controversial, video and song. Alejandro was insanely popular WW, whereas Judas underperformed for its controversy (and similarity to BR). I agree with the above though that Alejandro felt more authentically controversial whereas Judas felt like she was trying. Saying this, Alejandro video wasnt really controversial for its religious themes but moreso the gay imagery and Gaga looking the way she did. The hardest thing in this world is to live in it
Bubblegum Bitch 18,934
Judas! I agree with @KatieJudasGaga4that Alejandro has only controversial music video. And also, Gaga even released Judas on Easter.
Edonis 28,950
The Alejandro controversy surrounded the video only and I think the interpretative messages behind the video was much more long-lasting than Judas. ( I know a lot of people pull that BS about BTW being banned in Lebanon, but that was never actually true Some Maronite leaders called for the ban, but it never actually happened. I even saw a copy of the album at the Virgin Megastore in Beirut. Several songs like Bloody Mary made it on the charts there too, probably by me ) Anyways, I think the rosary swallowing, sexual depiction of Christianity, subtle commentary on homosexual repression made a greater impact on Gaga's image in the long-run tbh. Scri 845
Where I used to live at that time, Alejandro definitely. But maybe because, when Judas came out, I was in a more open-minded place...

holy scheisse 22,303
Judas derailed her momentum bc it was so ill received, altho she was highly overexposed and coming off a high of her TFM peak (of which Alejandro was a part of and successful). But it remains one of her best videos so I ain't mad.
JohnnyVersace 9,029
Alejandro. Because it was a big hit and still stirred controversy with the tone and religious imagery. Judas...no one was really paying attention to.
