People need to learn more about foreign policy, y'all would be horrified at how insanely evil our Military and Intelligence Agencies have been in just the last 30-40 years, and would probably be a lot more skeptical of things when it comes to our foreign policy.

I'm not trying to downplay this or anything, I'm just saying that for anyone who is like, shook at this state of affairs, just know that it was not random or unexpected and anti-war activists, especially of the lefty kind, have been dreading this kind of thing for the last few years and especially in the last few months

(Also, read the ****ing Afghanistan papers reporting)

I feel like nothing major will occur. I know this is a huge thing that the US essentially killed Iran's top general but I do not think Iran will be as "directly" retaliatory as people believe. At most I think Iran will retaliate by perhaps conducting more attacks in Iraq and possibly attacking / blocking Saudi ships. This won't lead to a world war 3 scenario. If anything it will just lead to more isolation of Iran and other sanctions crippling it. I really wish no war occurs for the sake of all the people in the Middle East because we know millions will die there...they will be the major victims in a world war...

A man, known for defying logic, in a certain office nearing re-elections may be just desperate enough to rally his countrymen to patriotism so you never really know. I'm hoping it won't escalate of course.

Maybe not for WW3, but Iran will retaliate very strongly & could pull us into a hot war. American lives are at risk as we speak.

That's basically it for Trump and Conservatives :emma:

For Actual Republicans (which does not include Trump) I would say they are a bit more malicious in that they see the benefits of a Nuclear deal as being adverse to their platform, which doesn't care about the wellbeing of the Global South or any country outside of America and our long and short term economic interests in other countries resources. But, wbk as soon as Obama announced the deal. Opposing a deal expressly meant to stop Iran from making Nuclear Weapons on the basis that it would incentivize them to create Nuclear weapons in order to excuse the efforts of terrorists is absolutely nonsensical. Arguments about the potential effectiveness of the deal, methodology, etc. are valid, but theirs was unhinged :deadbanana:

"We don't want Nuclear Weapons in the hands of Iranian Terrorists, therefore we will NOT agree to this deal to prevent it from happening because we think Obama IS a terrorist sympathizer who actually DOES want Iran to make Nuclear Weapons!" :saladga:

Bill and Hillary Clinton were the real allies for “don’t ask don’t tell” but y’all had to go and ruin it for the sake of equality.

You are technically right about this, but I just want to point out that if we do get into any kind of war with Iran, the people who will be the most affected by this are Iranian and especially Iraqi citizens, not Americans.

We live in a society (in America) where we always frame military aggression as being about saving American lives, and we don't take nearly enough consideration for the disproportionate affect we have on the places we invade, set up shop, "de-escalate" etc.  The War on Terror from America has killed hundreds of thousands and even potentially a million people in the middle east**, while only 7000 American troops have died in Afghanistan and Iraq.

I think it's more fair to frame this discussion about what our impact will be - We are not the people being attacked, we are the people who are doing the attacking, who have provoked Iran, sanctioned them, and broken our own deals and promises. America as a country, society, economy, etc. is not in danger, Iran is. That we may be willing to risk the lives of troops in order to kill what are overwhelmingly innocent people is evidence that our system is broken, but not that we are under attack - our state of affairs is much more nefarious than say Pearl Harbor in WWII where we actually were under attack after mostly staying out of the war.

Spoiler

The methodology of conducting death counts in war zones in the 21st century is contentious, most sources greatly underestimate death counts because body counts and that type of method are still used, even though we know they most likely are significantly underreporting deaths. However, even the most conservative of estimates still put the death counts in Iraq + Afghanistan in the realm of hundreds of thousands, meanwhile we know that ~6,900 is a mostly accurate number of American troop deaths (it does not account for things like PTSD related suicides and killings after returning home though)

Iran will 100% retaliate, its not false threats! Its not going to be like the other wars in the Middle Eastern. It will destroy the lives of people all over the Middle East for decades! This literally can start something like WW3 and im not exaggerating.

Im from Saudi so this means if America goes to war, my country will too and Iran will target us  :ohno:  im so scared

Lets not forget, this strike by America also killed many Iraqi citizens in Baghdad airport which is a public space!!! Iraqi citizens who are allied with America and have nothing to do with Iran are now killed for no reason! Its insane how nobody cares about this and America feels entitled to commit war crimes with no accountability and people go along with it.

Can you imagine hundred of American citizens die in LAX because Saudi wanted to target Khashoggi?
