Kayla 7,595
We know Gaga has a really big heart, so I thought we could have a thread for all the charitable things she's done. :) M.A.C. Viva Glam Campaign Gaga has worked with M.A.C. to raise awareness and funds for the M.A.C. AIDs Fund. She collaborated with M.A.C. first in Spring of 2009 with Cyndi Lauper, and again in 2010. She also performed with Terence Koh at a charity concert in Tokyo, organized by M.A.C. http://fashionetc.co...va-glam-2-video http://www.youtube.c...h?v=Y0s0r2mQvyA http://www.youtube.c...h?v=xXSHDjSqOmM http://www.youtube.c...h?v=1m98QJ_QXc4 http://www.youtube.c...h?v=BJtHeultlxU Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT) Gaga took a stand against DADT- the policy preventing GLBT members of the United States military from declaring their s-xual orientation and prohibiting those who are open about it from serving at all. She brought four discharged soldiers with her to the MTV Video Music Awards as her special guests on September 12th, 2010, and four days later she uploaded a video to her Youtube channel encouraging the Senate to repeal the policy and her fans to call their State Senators and voice their opinions. She also gave a speech at a DADT rally, given only 48 hours to prepare. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=GG5VK2lquEc http://www.youtube.c...h?v=g4rGla6OzGc National Equality March Lady Gaga didn't just march in October of 2009, but she also gave a very motivational speech and performed John Lennon's "Imagine" at the Human Rights' Campaign's National Dinner. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=PXpHQfMGYBU Rainforest Fund Performance Joining up with Elton John, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Mary J. Blige, Debbie Harry, and others, Gaga performed at Sting's annual Rainforest Fund benefit show early in 2010. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=S2ergGCUHZ0 http://www.youtube.c...h?v=JfcwsjgARoE http://www.youtube.c...h?v=ZO_8Qw7rH6k Japan http://static.musict...um/BGAMLG88.JPG Gaga designed a prayer in March of 2011. The bracelet was $5 and all proceeds went to Japan tsunami relief. Fans could also include an additional donation with their purchase of the bracelet. Later that month, Gaga donated $1.5 million to Zyanga Inc.'s fundraising drive to help earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan. She is also featured on a "Songs for Japan" charity album. In addition to this, Gaga auctioned off a kissed and signed teacup and saucer, raising $75,300, for young Japanese artists. http://www.bornrich....on-charity.html "Died" for World AIDs Day http://profile.ak.fb...73_776145_n.jpg Gaga abstained from posting on her social networking accounts with other popular celebrities for World AIDs Day. Each celebrity could not be digitally "alive" until Keep a Child Alive raised $1 million. The effort was organized by Alicia Keys. Haiti http://3.bp.blogspot...aiti_relief.jpg On January 24th of 2010, all money received from ticket and merchandise sales at that night's Monster Ball and all proceeds from items purchased in her online store went to Haiti relief. The amount raised totaled over $500,000. http://www.mtv.com/n...-on-oprah.jhtml Gaga also auctioned off her Gary Card-designed skeleton corset, raising money for Oxfam International to benefit victims of Haiti's earthquake. The auction raised over $5,000. http://fashionista.c...tume-for-haiti/ Homeless LGBT Youth http://blog.digitals...ter-1020651.jpg During the Monster Ball tour, Gaga worked with Virgin Mobile to donate $20,000 to homeless LGBT youth every show in U.S. cities. Before performing "Telephone," a lucky fan in the audience would receive a phone call from Gaga. During this phone call, she spoke about the homeless youth and noted the donations the group was receiving. She began working with Virgin Mobile in December, vowing to match up to $25,000 for every dollar donated to the cause. Premium VIP tickets were given to fans who volunteered their time to homeless youth organizations. Over $80,000 in proceeds were raised, and generated 30,000 hours of community service for hundreds of charities. http://www.youtube.c...player_embedded Make a Wish Lady Gaga has worked with this foundation to make dreams come true by meeting fans whose number one wish is to meet her and see her concert. http://www.gaganews....-fan-backstage/ Robin Hood Foundation In April of 2011, Gaga teamed up with the Robin Hood Foundation, a group focused on helping people in poverty in New York City. Gaga donated $1 million dollars to an organization, voted on by her fans. The winning organization was SCO Family of Services, which, among other services, connects LGBTQ with youth caring and supportive shelters, group homes and foster families. Anti-Bullying Gaga has been an advocate for peace and equality in the public eye since her rise to Fame, but she has done more than talk. After already speaking out against bullying in interviews and during concerts, Gaga pushed even harder after the suicide of fourteen year old Jamey Rodemeyer on September 18th, 2011, a fan and contributor to the "It Gets Better" project on Youtube. At the iHeartRadio Music Festival in September of 2011, Gaga performed "Hair" as a tribute to Jamey. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aER4KfBvpwA http://www.mtv.com/n...eartradio.jhtml She also met with President Obama at a fundraiser after tweeting: ""I am meeting with our President. I will not stop fighting. This must end. Our generation has the power to end it. Trend it #MakeALawForJamey" â€Right to Rock†Fundraiser In October of 2011, Gaga was the highest bidder for an auction at a “Right to Rock†fundraiser. She bid $13,000 for a dinner with Steve Van Zandt of the E-Street Band and Maureen Van Zandt, along with a bottle of wine signed by James Gandolfini. The money supports a non-profit organization called “Little Kids Rock†which aims to fund music education in underprivileged schools. Gaga wasn’t just the highest bidder for one of the auctions- she also donated items of her owned to be bid on, including a pair of earrings she was wearing that same night. Adding the earrings brought the bidding of one of her items (a signed keytar) up from $16,000 to $21,000. At this event, Gaga was also awarded The Big Man award. http://www.forbes.co...s-13000-dinner/ http://littlekidsrock.org/ A Decade of Difference Concert Gaga performed at Bill Clinton’s “A Decade of Difference†Concert in October 2011 in celebration of the William J. Clinton Foundation’s 10 th Anniversary. President Clinton’s vision and leadership have resulted in nearly 4 million people benefiting from lifesaving HIV/AIDS treatment; more than 12,000 U.S. schools building healthier learning environments; more than 26,000 micro-entrepreneurs, small business owners, and smallholder farmers improving their livelihoods and communities; and more than 2.2 million tons of greenhouse gasses cut or abated in some of the world’s largest cities. He has redefined the way we think about giving and philanthropy through his Clinton Global Initiative, whose members have made over 2,000 commitments that have already improved the lives of 300 million people in more than 180 countries.Watch her whole performance here: http://www.youtube.c...d&v=Ocn-E3BWNPAhttp://www.clintonco.../foundation.php http://www.afterelto...tribute-concert Meeting HIV Positive Children In October of 2011, during a visit to India Gaga stopped in Delhi to meet with children living in a home for children living with HIV created by the NAZ foundation. She stayed with the children for two hours, refusing the chair offered to her in favor of sitting on the floor surrounded by the children to talk and sing to them. She brought them pasta, cookies, soups, peanut butter, bread and more. She also donated a 64-inch TV, Sony Playstation, videos, and 3-D glasses to the 23 children. She also gave the children advice- encouraging them to take their medicine for their HIV and eat well to stay strong, as well as to be themselves. This was a no-publicity event- there were no cameras and minimal security. http://indiatoday.in...i/1/158019.html http://www.nazindia.org/ Born This Way Foundation http://www.bornthiswayfoundation.org/ In October of 2011, Lady Gaga announced the Born This Way Foundation, a project designed to empower youth and inspire bravery. The project is expected to launch in 2012, and was created in partnership with The Berkman Center for Internet and Society of Harvard University, The California Endowment, and MacArthur. This section will outline as many of these kind acts to fans as possible. She paid attention to everyone because there was so few of us…Then I went up to her and she said I can't believe you're here too! and we hugged and as we held eachother she whispered in my ear that she loved me and said thank you for being so dedicated,it means so much to me. and I whispered back in her ear, you're welcome my love, you have no idea what i've been through. and she looked directly at me and said, oh no, I do. Believe me I do. I see you. Don't think I don't. I know you. I've seen you everywhere you've been with me…Then I asked her if I could kiss her on the cheek and she kissed me first instead lol…she asked me: who paid for the pizza? and I said I did. so she reaches out and hands me money and I said no at first and she insisted and gave it to people to pass to me, and I see it's $100. I'm like: you're crazy and she's like: that's for the pizza, everyone share it together, I love you so much. We all shared the pizza together after and everyone took at least one bite. It was so beautiful to share that moment with everyone. we all hugged each other in a big group hug full of love. I just wish every single monster I know could have been there with us, because it was really magical. wonry 3
So many charitable acts. Not many artists will/would do that many. I was sort of hoping that maybe in the US somewhere, that she could do a concert (Born This Way Ball) for free, for the disabled people (mentally disabled or handicap). Even though, I'm in Australia... I would just love that. It would make me so happy. And then I could show my brother the concert later. If she did that, it would just make me the happiest person in the whole entire world, along with some other fans. Can you imagine?
