Shallow was a very good performance but it didn't make history. Till It Happens To You did that. But Shallow deserved the Oscar over TIHTY though, because we all know Shallow is a Gaga song and the other is a Dianne song.

Are you living on another planet? A year after, people are still talking about the Shallow performance, and I'm not even mentioning the overall success of the song.

While it was a beautiful and important moment, I'm not sure many people even remember TIHTY.

I think it's that performance that most people remember. I watch those "____ reacts to Lady Gaga" videos sometimes and when they list performances that impressed them the "one with the assault survivors" comes up a lot.

Though I'd say Shallow is bigger as a song and an event but if we're only discussing the Oscars performances, TIHTY might be bigger just that once.

OT: the only time Gaga ever "let me down" is when she didn't include TIHTY in the JWT setlist

Shallow was incredibly important in Gaga's career but TIHTY is much more important historical moment because it had societal impact, LG was at the pinnacle of the MeToo movement

OT: TIHTY was by far the more memorable and effective performance. Also her vocals were far better there. I'd be really happy to see it included in "best Oscar moments/performances" lists instead of Shallow. The reception of that latter performance was, well... shallow lol. It didn't mean anything. Just a clever way to create a scandal. TIHTY was a burst of passion for a cause.

I think you're half right, let me put it that way. At the end of the day it was the song that succeeded, through that particular performance. But I wouldn't say that performance is the "only reason" it managed to capture the audience for as long as it did.

But your latter point is 100% correct (sadly), Shallow's performance will be iconic and TIHTY won't be.
