Pop Dissected: How "Joanne" Redefined Lady Gaga's Career

Pop Dissected, a channel focused on analyzing pop music, just made a video on the album Joanne and how it redefined Gaga's career. Whether you like the album or not, it's a very interesting video to watch because it comes from an outside perspective even though I don't personally agree with everything in it (especially some remarks about ARTPOP and what it means to be "honest" and "authentic", I think he could have articulated that differently).

And for the love of all that's sacred Little Monstrosities, I know some of y'all can't hear the word Joanne without throwing a fit (@PunkTheFunk) but be civil down there.

It’s my least favorite Gaga album but I still like it, and do appreciate what it meant for Gaga and what she wanted to do this time around. It truly proved Gaga’s versatility and immense talent for anyone that still had any doubts about it even after C2C.

Joanne is a super special album to me, especially since it was the first era I was able to see her

Ikay but i was watching this channel and he’s clearly a katy stan bc i loved his witness video and expected the same depth of research for ARTPOP and he basically sided with it being a flop even though he could have went in depth of the numbers and mentioned that it was in the middle of the transition to streaming as well

I agree on that, honestly. And I think he does too because he even came here iirc and made a comment on how he admitted he should've done more research on Gaga but he's put a lot more effort into this one it seems and I'm glad he acknowledged his mistakes.

That's really sweet! I haven't seen her yet but I'm really looking forward to it. Maybe someday

Joanne came out at a really difficult time in my life (I had just lost my aunt, which is simultaneously f*cked up and hella ironic) and the album helped me a ton through my grieving process and I'm forever gonna be thankful to Gaga for that. I've always connected to her albums and they all mean a whole lot to me but Joanne has and always will have a really special place in my heart.

Joanne's what got me into this fandom. It's also what made me appreciate her art before it. I'm glad Joanne existed and it doesn't deserve all the slander it receives everyday from this site.

Joanne is also very special to me. It came out when I was on my Erasmus in Finland, which was the very first time, that I wasn’t living with my parents. The album reminds me of one of the best times I ever had, since I never had just one single day there, that was a bad day ☺️

That is really lovely. Thank you for sharing this! I'm really glad you have such good memories to think of  :sara:
