But when the article states that she owned the decade because she had two bestselling albums in that time, then they're making it about album sales and I'm going to take them to task for inaccuracy. Beyonce's achievements have been needlessly inflated for the last few years even when others do better. That needs to be called out.

List said nothing about “best selling” and y’all way too worried over this.

Just realised that I wrote this response to the wrong article. This stuff was written in the NY Post which was the thread below this one. I must've read it, exited, clicked on this one and typed this in for some reason!

I figured! But even then, NYP didn’t even refer to those as “best selling of the decade”. the way I see it, They’re referring to it’s (yes sales but also) heavy critical acclaim and audience praise.

But is not about popularity but impact :diane:

Who broke the internet when:

- surprise drop an album

- have HBO special

- performed at Coachella

in this decade?

answer to all of that: YONCÉ

True but they won’t see it. To them it’s all about who sold well. Even though Beyoncé has had the best moments and has been super Influential and repped black culture hard af. But I guess we can’t expect hardcore pop fans to understand Beys impact lmao

This. She's an icon, sure, but she hasn't really done anything that people (at least what I've seen) try to emulate.

Lmao haha her live performances are unmatched. Many artists claim Bey as an Inspiration. It’s okay to not like her but y’all literally turn not liking her into discrediting her hard work and success. It’s immature and lame and I wonder why Bey is the subject to all the hate? Yet Tay and Adele can sell millions and never get questioned? Tay hey woman of the decade for what? Selling well great. But yeah let’s say Bey hasn’t done anything lmao lame

But even so, they're referring to a subjective, debatable thing (how good an album is) to decide if she owned the decade or not. That's not the way such a thing should be processed as there's obviously going to be a lot who disagree. Make it about figures and there's nothing to argue about. It's not about being superficial, it's about using the right method for the right situation.

People have surprise dropped albums before (not making it a thing, but they did it), many artists have HBO specials, many artists have performed at Coachella. None of these things make Beyonce special or innovative. And if she's had the best moments is a subjective thing. She has been influential but not the most influential. Hardcore pop fans are not stupid, they can still understand Beyonce's impact. Beyonce herself was very pop at one point, after all. I listen to all forms of music and I can say that Beyonce's impact has been minimal.

So basically what you mean is that everyone's opinion is subjective, except yours which is an absolute truth?

No, I'm saying basing it on stuff like how good her album is is where the subjectivity comes in. I'm saying to make it about sales and figures so that there's nothing to argue about.

I always lose exactly what you’re upset about everytime Beyoncé is brought up in this site.... NYP believes Beyoncé is the Artist of the decade, if you don’t. That’s cool. You can save your energy on these essays that no one really reads.

first it was about sales, but then I disproved that but then it’s a subjective/debatable thing??

I haven't written essays this time. And no, I was saying that it would be one thing if they made it about (accurate) sales but don't make out that subjective beliefs about how good an album is should be factored into who's the most influential of the decade.

The fucccc

she literally created the concept of a surprise release album and visual albums. Her music was genre-bending. Gaga has yet to top her performances in terms of technical ability. Are y’all really this delusional?

I am directing what I'm saying at them. I thought that was obvious. But no, I wouldn't actually contact them, I'm not even American, this doesn't affect me. But the least I can do is harmlessly comment on a pop forum about it, right? I'd only send a formal complaint about something actually worthwhile.
