seashellplay 512
Ocean Eye's was released independently on Soundcloud, and was originally for a dance routine, I believe - it gained plenty of attention. Interscope contacted her and her brother (the producer), and then Billie became a superstar!

Her mother had some say, plus her brother was working on music at the time too. I think she spoke about it in an interview once. The song Ocean Eyes was what helped seal the deal with Interscope, but she did have familial connections to the entertainment industry as well. RAMROD 107,591
It was that Flo Rida song. Just like another user have said. That song was everywhere. And was featured in Hang Over movie, you know that popular comedy films with Bradley Cooper and more? So yeah, it was EVERYWHERE. And if you don't remember it, maybe you were too young to know then, or just completely ignorant with it then. Maybe you didn't hang out enough and such. But the point is, this uncredited feature is the key for Ke$ha to get it big with Tik Tok. Plus, the infectious beats are helping a lot as well. They never credited Kesha has the female singer for a good few weeks, and people started googling "female singer on Right Round". Sorry guys, this isn't the reason. This mostly convinced Dr. Luke to promote Kesha as a solo artist - it did almost nothing to her publicly. Kesha was NOT credited on Right Round until she became a household name after TikTok - they updated the credits to further promote the song. Notice how Kesha is not anywhere to be seen in the video. She told this story numerous times and complained that she received NO publishing credit and wasn't paid a dollar for it -- she even said that's why she included the $ in her name because she didn't make **** at the time and wanted money. My guess is a combination of what others brought up which is the catchy beat, Dr. Luke's connections, and Kesha's then-controversial image of being wild glitter trash -- all of which made her go viral.
