MonsterofFame 1,785
I was thinking about Kesha's ridiculously fast rise to fame, and I began wondering - how did it happen? Kesha didn't have a single song out in her name yet, no online fanbase (this was 2009, before social media was mainstream), and yet she managed to go #1 on her FIRST single. All the recent big artists - Lizzo, Post, Billie - all had been building fanbases online for a while before they hit it big. How did Kesha get that visibility so fast? 27monster27 12,545
She had the Right Round remix that she was on in 2009 that hit number one. he/him/his
Dominic 11,922
It was relatable and quotable: "wake up in the morning..." There wasnt anyone out there with her trash glam persona at the time which helped her to stand out. She also released music that was on-trend. Streaming also gives more competition to newer artists. The hardest thing in this world is to live in it

Luke threw her on right round and that one song gave her an album deal and Luke’s attention.
HoneyB 27,672
I feel like at the time Tik Tok’s video was kind of scandalous, there was throw up glitter and the video showed her disrespecting parental authority. Also we see Tik Tok as an iconic bop of the 2000s but at the time it was kind of “controversial” because it was seen as trashy music with no substance. Idk it’s hard to explain everyone was bopping to it nontheless I just remember at the time of the release a lot of my friends and family hated how trashy the song was, but continued to listen to it anyway 💋 𝕊𝕥𝕖𝕡 𝕐𝕒 ℂ𝕠𝕠𝕜𝕚𝕖𝕤 𝕌𝕡💋🍪
xoxo Craig 55,649
She was featured on Right Round with Flo Rida: This was when Flo Rida was huge! They never credited Kesha has the female singer for a good few weeks, and people started googling "female singer on Right Round". So that got people engaged and curious to see who she was and what songs she had. She was also feautured in Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl" music video, which got people used to how she looked: They then released Tik ToK and with all the hype/curiosity around her, the song and her gained a lot of exposure, and thus, her rapid rise to fame End Racism Now
JazzGa 14,611
The song went viral and was a meme. People made fun of Kesha possibly even more than they actually liked her, just like with Justin Bieber. Everyone at my school was like "Hahaha what a sloot! What a trash girl!" and was hate-watching the video and the covers, while also constantly listening to the song. I think the controversy/bad press ultimately helped her get on top but it's still incredible that it managed to outchart Bad Romance. Also Dr. Luke may have contributed by pulling strings for her and promoting his own new project?
