I am so excited for it!! I'm sure it's going to be so good. In my opinion Christopher Nolan has never made a bad movie.

Although it looks good, based on the trailer, we have already seen this aesthetic and sound on Inception and The Dark Knight...sure, the script will probably be as good and innovative as those two movies, but the technical aspects such as sound and art direction look incredibly similar :trollga:

I am so happy we are getting movies like this with black men in the lead. This could have easily gone to Brad, Tom, Ben, Jude or any of those white actors.

Well, he's an auteur. It's what they do. They make movies with a recognizable style.

he's an auteur, but would that imply that a unique style should take over every film, regardless of it's plot and essence? does a movie adapts to a specific style, or does the style changes in behalf of the movie? That's what Kubrick did and Spielberg does, successfully, having many movies of different genres; their style is present but it adapts to the movie. The opposite happens with Tim Burton, and that's why his career went kinda downhill, and i'm not saying it will happen to Nolan, but come on...we have already seen that exact same style on 4 movies (Inception and TDK Trilogy).

I'm not saying he should have the same the same style in every movie. Obviously if he were to do a rom-com, he probably wouldn't choose to do it in this style. But you never know, it would be unique, which could be a good thing; it would definitely attract some people.

But so far most of his movies have been similar, in the way that they have all been high budget action and/or sci-fi movies. And this particular styles just fits those kind of movies, so I see no reason for him not to keep it. If he changed his style with every movie, he wouldn't be considered an auteur. Not that that would necessarily be a bad thing.

Now I don't think Tim Burton's career going downhill was due to his style. He simply haven't made a good movie in many years. Look at Quentin Tarantino for example, he has made 10 movies, all with the exact same style and he is as succesful as ever.

I personally, as someone who aspires to become a filmmaker, believe that a filmmaker should make a movie in whatever way they want, regardless of plot and essence. There should be no limits to how someone makes art. There should be no rules. So if you want to let the movies plot dictate the style, you absolutely should. But if you want to let the style shape the movie, do that.
