Zilla 13,451
Let's not forget that he's been trying to say for years he's the greatest president who ever lived, now he can say he's the third president to be impeached in history and no matter what "good" comes out of him, this will override even the nastiest stuff he has done. If you were to google his name right now, most things you see are impeachment and this has to be hurting his fragile ego.Β His "legacy" is ruined and he brought it upon himself.Β πΈ'π π πππππ πππ πππππ’ πππππ ππππ ππ ππππ. HorusRa2 5,005
Yeah the articles of impeachment are weak. Abuse of power over Ukraine? Obstruction for noncompliance over subpoenas? Yeah thatβs not going to be it. Letβs just go forward with that instead of the illegal war, helping a genocide and the rest of the horrible things heβs done abroad BUT OH MY GOD WE HAVE TO IMPEACH OVER OBSTRUCTION. Jesus. Democrats never learn.Β I think it's mostly about the simplicity of it all. "What did he do?" "Well, he held the pre-approved military aide over Ukraine's head and asked them to publicly announce an investigation into his political rival. And when congress subpoenaed the documents they required to investigate and asked for testimony, Trump refused" "What proof is there?" "Umm...he admitted to it on Twitter, doubled down on TV (adding China too), his staff admitted to it, Ukraine still doesn't have the full aide we promised them, and we don't have the documents we asked for because he wouldn't provide them and wouldn't allow anyone to testify." You could argue semantics, culture,Β intent, or even hypocrisyΒ with anything elseΒ really but you can't make any excuses for him here because it's just straightforward and clear as day to anyone whose head isn't up their own (or Trump's) ass. The GOP knows that. That's why they're attacking the legitimacy of the investigation, source of the information, and the validity of the impeachment rather than defending Trump by going against the accusations themselves. Not once have they said anything to actually defend him and that's because THEY CAN'T. Pelosi was smart here imo. Whimsical bitch

Republicans were rabid about his dishonesty and promiscuity. They had to "cleanse the office" by impeaching him. He was a degenerate for cheating on Hillary. He was evil! Vile! Sick! You could argue that Trump's first real impeachable offense was violating campaign finance laws by paying off a p*rn star to keep quiet. Not a peep from Republicans aside from a few casual "oh...ew...anyway, HeR eMaILs!‘‘!" And now the Republicans who got their names known by impeaching Clinton are stark defenders of such an obvious criminal. How morally corrupt, mentally inept, and hypocritical can they be  I had such little faith in them and they STILL managed to disappoint me. Not a single Republican voted to defend our democracy. Bambino 24,321
What does it mean when a president is impeached? I mean does it have any effect on his presidential tasks or powers? Many are saying he's impeached but still a president so I'm curious what changed and what whether impeached has any effect here at all.

The House of Representivies has the sole power in our constitution to bring up & affirm articles of impeachment against Executive branch officials, including the president. Once it has reason to bring up articles, they must be voted on to officially "impeach" a president, that is to accuse him of mishandling the office or breaking public trust in some way. It is then sent to the Senate, where they perform a trial, where the deciding jurors are the 100 senators. You need 67 votes in the senate to convict Trump, which fully removes him from office and bars him from every running for election again. As far as changes to his presidency or powers, their are none, unless he is removed. He will be, however, stained by this in ways that we do not yet know. Only 2 presidents before today have ever been impeached, and neither of them were impeached before the election of a second term. It's extremely possible that this stain on his presidency will make it even more impossible for him to be re-elected, or it could boost him to be re-elected if he isn't convicted. It's a very scary time in America right now because at the end of the day, Trump is being impeached because he's trying to rig the 2020 election with support from foreign governments. If he isn't convicted for that conduct, he will very likely only be emboldened to do it all over again, this time in the open. His second term may be inevitable because Republicans are allowing our democracy to be torn to shreds, aka America is on very thin ice rn.
