The result of the impeachment vote is not "invalid." President Trump has been impeached. Period. The Senate will next hold a trial and decide whether to convict and remove him from office. That vote is SEPARATE from the impeachment vote, which is now over. President Trump has been impeached.

I really wish you'd take some time to learn about things, especially if you're always going to be one of the first to comment on a thread - you're misinforming other GGD users.

Clearly, I thought I knew what I was talking about, so that is why I was being vocal. Nothing wrong with being wrong and then corrected. I am not responsible for educating Lady Gaga fans on politics. My main point was its invalid because he wont be removed.

It depends, having him officially impeached buts him on a different light that what right wing media can block. We all like to think that all his voters are crazy but the truth is that most of them just vote republican because thats why theyre used to do but they dont really engage into politics that much outside of their personal needs, having him impeached makes people wonder and ask questions. While it also SHOULD wake all dormant democrats up to also ask questions, learn about whats going on and vote. I really struggle to see a scenario where this process decreases the democratic turnout. 

Trump's core fans wont change no matter what, but thats not enough for him, if the blue turnout is even a little bigger than in 2016, he seriously has to worry about independents, all of those who regretted voting for him, all of those who prefered to give a chance to the one that would break the status quo instead of Hillary, all those farmers he has dissappointed, etc.

They will really need to look for ways so the impeachment doesnt turn all of those people off, and the 2016 margins were ridiculously close.

Trump will have to defend himself during the debates, something he sucks at.

 

Impeachment might not remove him, but I struggle to see how it will help him in 2020.

Correct. Nixon resigned before the Senate trial. Bill Clinton served his full term after being impeached (likely what will happen with Trump).

He needs to be held accountable. The House had every reason to stop his crazy way of governing. The Senate won't remove him but I think his presidency is definitely weakened.

I'm just worried about his base. They're gonna have a great turnout because they think he's a martyr. Republican politicians and RNC are 100% behind him. 

The GP I think is against. But then they were even in the lead up to 2016. At least the majority supported his impeachment. Hopefully they show up at the polls.

his fanbase is going to be even more MAD than they were in 2016. they will RUN to vote for him again. hopefully democrats can pull through but it might be tough

I think this goes way beyond what happens in the 2020 election. The House (Congress) had to protect their arm of the government and they were "dared" by him in so many ways to impeach. I think he finally understands the implications but he's not going to change. Force has to be met with force by people like him.

No, I agree. I have been in support of impeachment because it's the right thing to do regardless of partisan outcomes. But from a pragmatic point of view, that's important too. We've had enough of him. We really can't afford 4 more years of him. 

And Democrats need to stop playing the defensive all the time. Even during the impeachment debates I wish they actually made more points and more strongly, with the passion that Republicans do it with.

Yes. Entirely partisan and project on to Democrats what they themselves do. They call Democrats partisan whereas it's actually Republicans who voted on this and other issues 100% on party lines. 

I would have much less of an issue with Republicans if they stood up to a demagogue. But no. Power and party is everything for them.
