Several Billboard Employees Reveal How Magazine Is Actively Helping Mariah Carey Manipulate Its Charts

“All I Want for Christmas” is another number one hit Mariah didn’t earn.

Mariah Carey has a history of manipulating the Billboard Hot 100 so she can have number one songs. In the 1990s, she turned poorly-performing songs into №1 hits by releasing them for 49 cents (one-fifth of the price of a regular single) and made “special” deals with music stores where her songs were famously displayed.

Fox News famously exposed Carey’s chart fraud, and sites such as HuffPost and the New York Times have also elaborated. However, according to a longtime Billboard employee whom I spoke with, what is happening with Mariah’s Christmas hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” should be a huge scandal. However, it won’t since money is going into all the correct pockets.

Mariah Carey has a legacy of chart manipulation and fraud.

According to various employees at Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter, Mariah Carey’s management has held several meetings with Billboard the past year. A deal was struck (and yes, money and other “gifts” were involved) to give Mariah a special “Icon” award, name her the top female artist of all time, and, most importantly, get “All I Want” to №1.

Billboard, which is supposed to weed out multiple streams by the same user, isn’t doing it this time thanks to an agreement with Carey. They are counting streams from the airing of a YouTube commercial that automatically plays on other clips.

Mariah Carey and her management have had “discussions” with Billboard all year.

Three employees tell me that the chart director, who has worked for Billboard for over 20 years, has been closely watching the charts for the past week and has constantly been calling Carey’s management. When “All I Want” fell slightly behind in points from “Circles” by Post Malone, he suggested that Mariah release a signed copy of the CD single to gain on Post Malone. The problem is that fans can by up to FOUR CDs, each containing a digital download as well. That means each purchase can produce EIGHT sales points. As of last year, Billboard’s chart policy didn’t allow this.

Then, there are fans posting streaming playlist (several on Twitter), some which mess with the IP address to count as extra streams. Many of the playlists being forwarded put the song on repeat for SEVERAL hours. Lady Gaga got in trouble with this back in 2013, and Billboard swore they would try and weed this out. They haven’t.

According to my sources, Mariah Carey isn’t the only artist to receive “special” privileges from Billboard. Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and some others have received special benefits as well. Those at Billboard who complain about this are immediately fired. Meanwhile, Billboard’s chart director and other staff members are getting rich in their pockets by committing fraud.

Of course, this has gone on for a long time. In the 2000s, the editorial director Jim Bessman tried to separate Billboard from being a shill magazine for artists and their record companies. They replaced him. And now, the magazine has become a huge joke — one in which several employees are disappointed by. I can’t name the employees in this article, but lawsuits against the magazine will be coming forward in the new year.

That 90s thing isn't even true . Loverboy, a 2001 single, was sold for 49 cents and it didn't even go #1 and that was a promotion with Virgin Mobile who sold it as a bargain. All her other #1's went #1 because they actually did very well in the US.

I don't ever care if it's a fraud, that song is arguably one of the most popular songs of all time, sooner or later it would hit #1:ladyhaha:

It's Christmas season, it's not that hard to believe that AIWFC is gonna peak at #1 at the BBH100. It's always in the top ten every year.

The fact that they had too drag gaga is so sad and pathetic

And 2013... like, really? She didn't even do well in 2013 for her to be involved in some payola garbage.

Not to mention that it's been reaching new peaks every year leading up to this. It's growing at a fast pace during Christmas because streaming is growing. So she could be #1 again next year too.
