Madonna Reached Out to Gaga About Performing Together

Actually Gaga started it by creating a song that the whole world saw sounded like Express Yourself, fabricating a letter Madonna wrote, and thanking Whitney Houston for the inspiration.

Madonna just happened to respond very loudly.

But I think if Gaga had said, "you know what it does sound a little like Express Yourself. That wasn't my intention though, and it is its own song. A song I'm very proud of," the whole thing would have blown over.

Whitney Houston was an inspiration. I respect her for not getting on her knees and sucking Madonna's dick like everyone else does.

Second of all, all of this should be beneath Madonna. She's considered a true legend and yet she chose to fuel a feud thats insignificant. It was typical Madonna courting controversy but this time the controversy was incredibly ba--l. She just looked desperate even though she isn't. And thats a shame.

The fact is, empirically, the chord progression is the only thing you can say these two songs share. And thanking Whitney as an inspiration isn't some shade toward Madge. If you actually listen to the original acceptance speech, too, she simply says she imagined Whitney singing it, and that was what fueled her to push forward with it. And I believe her, lol. Houston's an infinitely better vocalist than Madge.

This is ALL on Madonna. I'm not angry about it, really. I'm still a huge fan of her. And it's pretty clear at this point it was just a canny move on her part to drum up press for herself. And it worked. But, lol, let's be honest about who dragged this on.

Madonna should know more than any other pop star about making songs that sound similar to others, and Gaga did not sit down and produce the melody to "Born This Way", it was mostly DJWS and Fernando more than likely. There are alot of songs out there that sound a lot more alike than BTW/EY but you don't see other artists dragging each other for filth like Madonna does Gaga, and honestly if Madonna felt so strongly about the similarities she should have just sued Gaga.

Madonna has built a career on controversy, bashing everyone from Mariah carey to Janet Jackson and it rarely works in her favor. It's a shame that in her 30+ year career she hasn't learned her lesson.

Took the words out of my mouth!

oh I think Madonna dragged it on. But I think Gaga started it.

Chord progression or whatever you want to call it, you can literally sing one song in its entirety over the instrumental of the other and it fits.

Same chord progression. Different melodies. Standard pop verse/chorus structure. Alter BPM to make it "fit". No doubt you can hear the similarities, but "stealing" it ain't.

And plus, Madonna has only benefitted from the comparisons, it's not like she was some suffering underground artist that had her music stolen from her and profited upon. No harm no foul. She should be grateful. :fan:

Nobody called it stealing...

Nobody called it stealing...

Many of Madonna's fans are calling it that. And by saying Gaga "started" it, you're basically implying that she was aware of copying the song. Maybe you would like to clarify?

It's clarified in the first post I made.

Well you can't blame her for thanking Whitney, she was cited as a vocal inspiration. And we are all in the dark about what's going on behind the scenes- It is possible Gaga lied about the 'email' because she assumed she knew Madge well enough and thought she would have her back and support her. Or it is possible Liz Rosenberg lied (hey, it wouldn't be the first time!) about not receiving an email in order to usher in the fabricated "feud" to generate buzz. We just don't know.

And Madonna responded more than "loudly", her mashup performance was disrespectful, and her ambiguous/backhanded comments were clearly made for free publicity. Why couldn't she just speak her mind truthfully, and clearly when asked about Gaga? Oh wait, that is never as profitable... I should milk this to all it's worth by playing the media "feuding rivals" game, then ask Gags to perform with me on my stage as an extra twist- that will surely make 'em talk!

It's a clever move, but quite tacky and low as well. :coffee:

Actually you can't. You literally have to alter the speed and pitch of one in order for it to fit with another, which Madonna did for her BTW/EY mashup. Gaga's original version is lower pitch and faster. Anyone can alter any two pop songs, and try to say that they're similar when they aren't.

Also many pop songs can be sung over other pop songs. That does not mean it is a rip-off. You can argue that every Katy song is a rip-off of a Rihanna song by saying one can be sung over the other with the proper adjustments to pitch and speed. It's words and instruments. The same can be argued for any two pop songs ever created. That's not a valid reason.

Any copyright infringement lawsuit involving music is based on exact copying of words and/or melodies. Which is not the case for BTW and EY, the words and melodies are completely different. The only thing similar is the aforementioned chord progression, which is found in multiple pop songs.

These songs include Respect Yourself (the 70's hit that Madonna copied herself with EY), Waterfalls by TLC, that horrid Kelly Rowland+David Guetta song, and many more pop songs.

I can completely see how Whitney may have inspired Born This Way...however, I hear it more in MTN instead of BTW.

Don't collab with Madonna. She's sinking and I don't want Gaga to be on that ship when it goes down.

It's a shame because I really do like Madonna's songs. Oh well.

Meh, I really don't like the idea of either of them on stage for either's tour tbh. :nails:

Both should just finish they're respective tours and hit the stage when there's new material regarding a possible collaboration for them both tbqmfh!!!! :legend:
