U can't generate wealth with social benefits only redistribute them because they are basically transfers... So it has its limits If we use all that redistribution to fund something like retirement, there isn't much left to improve real living standards on things like healthcare or just our overall economic state If society wants to keep retirement as is forever no matter what happens to life expectancy... Again it's a matter of values and what u want to prioritize as a society But im saying it's going to be an increasingly expensive thing to sustain without reforms and comes at a cost. Even if you CAN fund it with higher tax revenue from the wealthy... That's tax revenue that can't be used to improve the ever sluggish economy that isn't improving ppls lives One way or another the cost is there It may be possible for countries to ignore it now but if in 50 years let's say we live to 100 or longer... I wanna see what's gonna happen to Countries that continue to refuse reforms because of public backlash. Countries like mine (Canada) Already we've had labor force production issues from ageing population and instead of retirement reforms we decided to greatly increase immigration which has caused a housing crisis and surgingly impossibly high cost of living in our cities. Houses in Toronto rose from like $400,000 to over $1 Million in th last 15 years... The house my parents bought in the suburbs for $226,000 in 2005 is now valued at nearly $700,000. The housing crisis and low vacancies have created rediculous housing surges Basically there's no escaping the cost of ageing population. The cost is there one way or the other. By which point people will have their precious Brexit and realise the Tories led them into a black hole of unemployment, financial failure and the break up of the United Kingdom.
