Supersonic 49,376
Psychologists from the University of Helsinki found out that people with quarrelsome, aggressive and rude personalities are more likely to buy expensive cars as status symbols. The claim was elaborated on in an essay in the International Journal of Psychology. The head of research, Erik Lönnqvist, was motivated to conduct a study on this out of own personal experience. There has already been documented proof and studies about drivers of luxury cars being especially reckless, the presumed hypothesis being that money makes people more apathetic and makes them care less about other human beings. Lönnqvist study proves however, that money doesn't spoil a person's character: His hypothesis is that inhearently bad people care way more about status symbols than the average person and therefore are more likely to own expensive cars. (eg: fast & expensive cars don't make bad people, but bad people love fast & expensive cars). His study encompasses data from over 1900 people and showed that egotistical, narcicisstic and aggressive people not only take pride in owning expensive cars, they also care way more about owning and using products from prestigious brands overall. https://www.sueddeutsche.de/wissen/psychologie-statussymbol-auto-1.4712813?utm_source=pocket-newtab

Andreu 37,216
how long will it take til someone comes here and say this study is false and we are jealous of what we can't have and that it's our fault because we did not "work hard" anyways, can't say i am surprised
Glamourpuss 29,080
I think this is one thing that we didn't need science to prove.

Lona Delery 7,227
ive read the study and im very confused how they got to that result. they themselves say "Descriptive statistics and the correlations between age, sex, income, personality and having a high‐status car are shown in Table S4. Age was negatively and household income positively correlated with status car ownership. Personality traits were not correlated with status car ownership" personality traits show no correlation? idgi someone explain Sometimes it feels like I've got a war in my mind, I wanna get off but I keep riding the ride

derpmonster 22,412
Fun result but reminder: A implies B does not mean that B implies A. It can, but it has to be proved separately. So if the OP's title is accurate according to the study, then turns out bad people like expensive cars. However, everyone who likes expensive cars isn't bad.
