Why? Because it didn’t happen. You misunderstood what I said and then decided to stick with it out of trying not looking stupid. Just drop it. You pointed out a bias in the media which is false. You clearly stated that because this shooter isn’t white, they would somehow be treated differently. You are making white shooters targets (victims) of media bias. You have failed to realize every shooting, regardless of the shooter’s race, is getting less coverage because it is so common and becoming normal. Those inner city shooting and deaths that barely hit the news? That will be our schools everywhere soon regardless of socioeconomic setting.

The media only makes a big deal of shootings if it’s a white shooter. People, particularly white liberal voters, only demand the government to change If it’s a white shooter affecting white schools- when shootings have been taking lives in the inner city at a higher rate for decades. The post is about pointed outrage and the inability to come up with a solution. Nothing at all is said about the shooter themselves and how they are a victim. So please, if you don’t understand what’s being said, don’t twist it to fit what you want it to. Thanks. You're looking at it from the wrong angle. Yes inner city shootings happen all the time among ALL RACES, but that is not what this is about. The fact that this is a school shooting, which are overwhelmingly committed by white men, will mean that this shooter will be treated slightly differently. This will mostly likely be made into a race issue just because it is one shooter. The reason why the media seems to make big deals only when it's a white shooter is because nearly all mass/school shootings are done by straight american WASPs (white, anglo-saxon protestants). Also, not to mention, this entire article didn't mention his race ONCE. Where is your idea about media bias?

Inner city shootings happen every day, and kids are dying to gang violence and shootings everyday, but the whole country turns its head to that. No one takes accountability in the inner city community. But if it’s a white guy- then everyone freaks out. I believe the issue here is that it’s a mass murder situation at a school. Most mass murder situations such as this get media attention, especially when young people are targeted.

Also, not to mention, this entire article didn't mention his race ONCE. Where is your idea about media bias? My “idea” of media bias comes from actual media bias andsensationalism- which is typically formed off the viewer. First off, this is a story that made national headlines- and it’s doing what these stories always do- cause a reaction, that is only a reaction. The same people that react to these stories, also come to websites like these and post and react here-how outraged that another school shooting has happened by another white male- but NEVER mention one thing about inner city shootings that kill an overwhelmingly higher number of people. They then, become quiet until the next white school shooter(and I only mention white because you actually provided statistics about white males- who are do usually commit these crimes) Comes along and kills 5-20 people at a school or Walmart, etc. the problem about guns then becomes about white kids with mental issues, and not about gun reform. These same people that only react on websites like this more often than not do nothing. They don’t vote. They don’t encourage their friends to vote. They have selected outrage about gun violence. We need to hold all gun violence accountable, in every community, in every perpetrator. If you are outraged by privileged kids with mental issues coming to schools and shooting kids, then you need to be just as outraged as kids who chose to be in gangs and kill other kids as well- then, YOU NEED TO ACT. If you are outraged by all gun violence, and you actually do you part to find a solution, then none of this applies to you.

Yep/ because it’s another one. I’m outraged that this is still happening and no solutions have come forth since columbine. Children are dying daily in the streets and they are also dying in shootings like this. Yet we only talk about it here, when it’s about shootings in schools by white males. So yeah, it’s frustrating. I don't really have a response to anything else you said as I do agree with most of it, but right now isn't necessarily the time to have conversation about inner city killings when a huge portion of the gun control debate focuses on those low-level shootings, as well, it's just hard to shy away from ones that kill a lot of people. However, this is truly false - a large portion of the people that are pushing for gun reform are younger people, under 25, and more and more of us are going out to vote than every before. For the first time, people under 40 are making up the majority of the federal electorate.

If anything, it will lead to more coverage as conservatives will try to frame this as an immigration issue, if the shooter is an immigrant or a child of immigrants. If it is lower in coverage, however, it will mostly likely be due to the fact that there were not many casualties or injuries and, unfortunately, that this is a common occurrence. There isn’t one. Perfect example of selected outrage on this very website. You’re confusing exposure to something that is an anomaly and exposure to something that is considered the norm with ‘selective outrage’ stemming from a place of inaction. The CDC says between 291,000 and 646,000 people worldwide die from seasonal influenza-related respiratory illnesses each year. 11,000 died in the Ebola outbreak died from 2014-2016. Guess which one got more media coverage? Ebola, of course. The anomaly, the unusual, gets more media coverage. Something that is shocking captures more attention. Similarly, inner city shootings related to gang problems, etc. will get less coverage as our society is accustomed to it being the norm. Does it result in more deaths than random school shootings in the suburbs? Of course. Regardless of what you focus on, addressing gun issues will ultimately affect all sectors of society. Making it about the shooter’s race and not about the victims is a disservice to the victims. Hope you understand where I’m coming from.
Battle 4 Ur Life 6,782
I was at this store today picking up stuff for my boss and it was being featured at cnn. while I was watching it and feeling disappointed that this insanity persists the counter guy saw me watch and had the nerve to say something like: “look at those guys pushing an agenda interviewing people so they can play it on loop.” I felt so disgusted but only managed to keep silent and not reply to such ignorance. it’s a weird feeling of helplessness mixed with grief. he would definitely have a different opinion was it his children or wife that were killed. the U.S needs to wake up for the sake of the mental health of its own population. #guncontrolnow ”Why’d ya come around me with an ass like that?”
