kaelergrey 5,386
Madonna and Lady Gaga and even Britney Spears paved the way for EDM or Dance Music to be mainstream. Madonna with Ray Of Light and Confessions and Lady Gaga with The Fame and The Fame Monster and Britney with Blackout. We can never deny the gravity of influence of this albums. Though some producer like the Godfather of Dance music Giorgio Moroder also paved the way for the genre. Thoughts? PeachJug 3,065
Gaga was THE major force in revitalizing music, bringing dance back, and accelerating the industry to the next era of EDM pop, ending the acoustic/light rock/r&b lull of the early-mid 2000s

Andreu 37,216
Id say David guetta with both his own work and the one with the BEP had at least the same impact tbh
Ally Campana 15,284
Definitely, all 3 of them paved the way. Does it matter? Damage is done
Twitter 14
I would say Madonna is the pioneer. Gaga and Britney paved the way...
AJRocketMan 2,684
Eh, dance music comes and goes in waves, with a different sound every time. Many of which don’t even go mainstream. Nobody remembers Electroclash, Dance Punk, and Nu Disco, and people barely remember Trance and French House. As for the late 2000’s wave of dance music, I’d say Rihanna (or at least her producers) helped bring it back more so than Gaga and Britney did. They kind of just rode the wave early enough to seem like pioneers when in reality they really weren’t. It was more so about being in the right place at the right time. Dance music was basically segregated to it's own chart. Blackout was influenced by the electronic underground club music at the time. It's considered a crossover genre album helping pop music find another sound to play with.
River 113,573
Maybe in the US but in Europe the Eurodance, Trans and others were dominating through the 90s-00s... Come on and wrap that blade of grass around my hairy ass

Lord Temptation 11,209
Madonna was the pioneer in the rush of teen gurl acts of the late 80s like Debbie Gibson and Tiffany, with even acts like Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson and Paula Abdul (briefly) embracing dance pop. The peak of this era in dance pop was 1987-1991, as by the end of this era both Madonna, Whitney and Janet had changed directions, and alternative rock and r&b taking over. Gaga definitely led the late 2000s charge against the pop rock of Avril Lavigne/KellyClarkson/Pink and the urban r&b pop of Brandy/Ashanti/Rihanna/Nelly Furtado. The peak of this new dancepop was 2008-2012. It’s funny how they are almost exactly two decades apart.
