Selena gets her first #1

I honestly thought Selena was done at this point, considering her last album was in 2015 and didn't produce any major, influential, award-winning hits, her follow-up stand-alone singles did terribly and she'd been very absent from the music scene. Then she comes back with this and it's like she's bigger than ever. Wonder how Taylor Swift feels about her friend, who's never been as successful as her or has as big a fanbase as her, get a #1 this year when she couldn't? Not only that, the song has achieved 5.4 million likes despite being released just 13 days ago. Taylor's ME! debuted over 6 months ago and its only just hit 5 million views and shockingly only has 278 million views, despite it initially breaking the 24 hour Vevo record. Selena's follow up, Look At Her Now, which is nowhere near as big, is also about to hit 3 million likes and Taylor's You Need To Calm Down only has 3.3 million likes after 4 months. I'm not saying Taylor isn't still successful, but her power as a single seller has decreased alarmingly. It's amazing how the "little guy" is triumphing in the music scene this year.

Another artist gets their first ever #1 this year. Once again, another artist extends this very unusual trend of the BB charts in 2019 - almost all of them are either getting their first #1 (Halsey, Jonas Brothers, Lil Nas X, Billie Eilish, Shawn Mendes, Lizzo, Lewis Capaldi) one of their first #1's (Ariana Grande, Post Malone, Travis Scott) or are getting their first #1 in years (Gaga). It's also worth noting that 6 females (plus Camila as a feature) have managed to reach the top, which is a positive sign for a resurgence of female success after the last few male-heavy years. Let's hope this all works in Gaga's favour next year.
