How Happy Couples Argue

In relationship/marriage, conflict is inevitable. Even the happiest couples argue. And research shows they tend to argue about the same topics as unhappy couples: children, money, in-laws, intimacy.

So, what distinguishes happy couples? According to “What are the Marital Problems of Happy Couples? A Multi-method, Two-Sample Investigation,” a study published this August in Family Process, it is the way happy couples argue that may make a difference.

“Happy couples tend to take a solution-oriented approach to conflict, and this is clear even in the topics that they choose to discuss,” said lead author Amy Rauer, associate professor of child and family studies and director of the Relationships and Development Lab in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences.

My husband and I have never had an argument like I think what is thought of as arguing. We talk to each other. If something is bothering us we are open about it and talk about it. Find out how we can make it better or work together to support the other person make a change. We both had previous relationships where arguments were horrible yelling matches. Not something either of us want to relive.

Really? My parents since a small kid always argued over who put the leftovers in the trash, who washed the dishes in a sloppy way,  and things like "why the hell are you cutting the apple that way you know THAT KNIFE IS NOT MEANT FOR CUTTING FRUITS IVE TOD HRIGRH"

Ive never heard them argue about money or children :awkney:

We are a happy couple, but I have a short fuse, so I can go loco in a second and my husband just sits there a laughs and say that I'm cute when I'm angry :awkney: so it makes me wanna punch him in the face even more.

We're usually finds the compromise and the solution, but the hardest things is to maintain this compromise/solution, it's not that easy.

We had out lowest point 3 years into the relationship where we fought every day but one day it just stopped, during a wedding of our straight friends :emma:

But we live a crazy life in some sense, so I don't see us as a regular couple with a regular problems..

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

So they’re saying the recipe for a perfect marriage is being a rich only child, married to an only child, have sex everyday and not have children, sounds good to me :vegas:

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

Im not surprised

i never met u personally but u strike me as the kind of person who would be very reasonable and considerate of your partners feelings and point of view in a relationship :)

if he is like that too then it helps even more if both are!

You just don't hear those arguments. Those happen when you're not around. Trust me.

The stuff you mentioned is nagging, not real arguing.
