looks like it's going to be beyoncé vs taylor vs frozen 2 for best original song at the oscars next year...:diane:

probably just frozen 2 vs taylor.

And if Cats gets as badly panned as it's gonna get, they might not even take it into consideration for "music" categories

I knew she was in this but it didn't occur to me that there'd be a new song. I'm excited for it.

Edit... I thought she'd be singing it. It should still be good though. I like her songwriting.

ALW always add (at least) a new song for film adaptations of his musicals.

don't underestimate the power of beyoncé - it's likely she'll get at least a nomination.

and lion king was a success and already earned over a billion which works towards her chances.

Ï could be your girlfriend for the weekend...

How bad this movie's going to get panned will likely majorly affect its chances. Even a song with Lloyd Webber is no guarantee when the public have overwhelmingly given a negative verdict before the movie's even out. The only song I can think of that got a nomination despite negative critic reviews was Earned It from 50 Shades of Grey. But that was only because that first movie was such a monster hit and the song was everywhere, so the academy just let it slip under the wire but it sure as hell wasn't going to win. I don't see Cats being a box office success judging by the public's very firm rejection of it thus far, so it may not be seen as having enough redeeming factors to warrant a nomination. It sounds quite good from these snippets but will it be seen as credible enough given the movie it's in? And the academy may also think this is an under-handed way to get an original song nomination by adding a new song to a movie that didn't need it. They already gave Andrew an Oscar for writing You Must Love Me for Evita, will they be prepared to give him another Oscar for the same trick again? Cringed so much at the end when Taylor said if you can't get T.S. Eliot, you may as well get T.S (her initials). She probably thought that was a cute little pun but it just made her sound full of herself. But let's face it, whatever's offered from Frozen 2 is going to be the big competition before all else, so we'll have to consider that.

Yeah the movie looks damn right weird/freaky and messy from the trailer :rip:    I think the soundtrack will do better than the movie

After seeing your negative essays on Taylor Swift in every thread about her, you’ve finally convinced me to stop liking her. All the CD’s I’ve purchased? I just destroyed them. Smashed with a hammer. The CD booklets? Burned to ashes so no one can see them again. My photos from concerts? Deleted. My concert tickets I kept? Burned with the booklets too. I made my boyfriend delete and destroy all of his Taylor things too and directed him to read ALL of your essays on Taylor Swift. He will learn to agree with you or I will make him keep reading your essays. The Cats movie? He is not allowed to support it. In fact, we both will be cancelling our internet just so we can make sure we don’t support her. Thank you for all your persistence for YEARS on a Lady Gaga fan forum, you have finally convinced us to change our minds :bye:

There's no need to be rude. Nowhere have I said that no one's entitled to be a fan of Taylor. I just want to speak my views without being made to feel wrong for doing so. We've never even spoken before - what gives you the right to be so disrespectful to me?

I can see Taylor in roles in Cats but Bombalurina is not it.   In the stage production that role requires a great dancer with a very strong mezzo soprano voice. I'm just not seeing it.

And hopefully they fix the horrid Cgi.

Just got done watching the video production DVD which was outstanding.

Now that INTO THE UNKNOWN is out. I just can't see it winning an Oscar. Elsa will sing this song and maybe in the movie, it'll sound more powerful than Brendon Urie's version. However, the lyrics are a bit meh and the song structure is kinda messy. Besides, the writers of Into The Unknown have already previously won for Frozen's LET IT GO and Coco's REMEMBER ME. So I doubt Oscar voters in the music branch will honor them with a third so soon.

The Music Branch loves Andrew Lloyd Webber. And perhaps they might be excited of embracing Taylor Swift who is one of the biggest popstar and arguably the best songwriter in her generation and whom has never received an Oscar nomination before. From the snippets, I think BEAUTIFUL GHOSTS is Oscar-bait. Even the first verse Taylor revealed are already outstanding. And no, never underestimate the power of Tom Hooper. Just because CATS' trailer was poorly received, doesn't mean no one's going to see it. Maybe it won't be huge in the US, but internationally? It's guaranteed to be a hit. China is guaranteed. Plus, even Tom Hooper's widely divisive musical adaptation of LES MISERABLES received lots of Oscar noms including Best Picture.

In short, Taylor Swift's BEAUTIFUL GHOSTS is a lock for Oscar nom and definitely has a great chance of winning it compared to INTO THE UNKNOWN, Beyoncé's SPIRIT, and Elton John's (IM GONNA) LOVE ME AGAIN.
