I don't understand how people can camp out so long...

Hello Mr. Radio

I don't work and university didn't start back for me until 2 weeks after the concert, so I didn't take any time off and it was just opportunity.

Just because someone can't camp 11 days doesn't mean that I shouldn't camp or that it's unfair.

I understand and completely agree at the fact that "just because one person can't doesn't mean you shouldn't"...but if everyone had just followed the 8am rule in the first place, there wouldn't be any problem. No, it's not an "official" rule, but it was a rule nonetheless and it sucks that for people like me who had full intention of following the rule are now finding out that we won't have any chance at all because people are camping out for days.

The 8am rule is ridiculous. Steph, the key holder for London was getting threats from other fans who turned up at 8am because 'she broke the rules'. She was genuinely frightened.

Just because someone can't camp 11 days doesn't mean that I shouldn't camp or that it's unfair. Anyone is eligible to camp and get the key, thus an equal opportunity is presented. If you have an external factor preventing you from getting the key, it doesn't mean it is unfair, it simply means luck is not on your side.

Well said

do you mean it's ridiculous that there's a rule at all? Or should the rule be a different day and time - if so, what do you suggest?

No, if everyone had followed the 8am rule, 1,200 people would show up at 8am and how would they decide who was first when the whole point of getting the key is queueing the longest and being legitimately the first one there? If Gaga had of said, okay guys it's a lottery, get there at 8am and I'll pick a person at random, then your point would be valid. However, the 8am rule isn't Gaga's or her security teams, it's Livenation's as a disclaimer and isn't enforced. Just like the way Jaywalking is illegal in Ireland too but it isn't enforced so if I wanna cross the road randomly I can.

It is not enforced. In some places law enforcement has moved people and I suspect the U.S. will be stricter but the rule most likely wont ever be enforced.

hmmm thats a shame that the 8am rule is no enforced. I guess we will have to wait and see how strict it is enforced in the US. I think it's unfair for someone to camp out for a week, thats crazy town bananas, not everyone can do that... people have school n jobs lets get real please

It's just as fair as someone else having a job and being paid more than you. Nothing in life is 100% fair, only opportunities are fair :) If it was enforced there'd be no #1 because everyone would arrive at 8am and there'd be health and safety issues, probably need ambulances on site!

But there would obviously be someone who steps into the line first, so they would clearly be the first person in line

Sometimes they get the cops out here in the US but that's only when it gets really crowded. The cops usually stay calm for awhile until the crowd starts going crazy when they know they have to run

Maybe I will for 2/23 MSG if I have the open time on my schedule and can make the arrangements for the camping itself.

Cold weather doesn't bother me much at least compared to hot weather.

I've gone camping in winter, but usually cabins instead of tents. (I've done a lot of tent camping in other seasons)

I've gotta say I'm kinda upset by the majority of the responses in this thread.

Let me introduce myself...

I have a life, I have friends, I have a full time job and I am not mentally unstable. I was able to start camping for the Manchester show 8 days beforehand and was it worth it? Yes it was.

Camping is to be enjoyed! People have this misconception about camping out like it's one of the most daunting things to do in the world, when actually, it's more about friends coming together and having fun. I don't think I'm sad and I had the best time camping out, in which I succeeded while most of you are moaning behind a computer screen, I was out having a blast with my friends, and we're the ones with no life?

We don't just camp out for Gaga, we camp out because it is an experience as a whole. I have a full time job and I'm entitled to 28 days holiday pay and if I want to choose to do that with my free time then it is my and every right to do so. Not only am I dedicated fan, but I like to think my friends had a big part in this. Some friends in particular I don't often see unless there is a Gaga event happening in my country, it's a special experience.

Also this silly questions about toilet issues are making me laugh, these people clearly haven't camped a day in their lives! People can watch our spaces while we head to a public toilet, that isn't even an issue. People are also wondering what we do during the daytime too... We do what we always do, we party.

Cue stampede. Also there could be multiple people who run for it at the same time. Also that would be a lottery basically. So yep, never gonna happen.
