Lemondeduerl 3,239
I'm vegetarian since January and I'm considering eating meat when I go out with friends because I'm the only one and I feel there's no too much options. :)
Flapjack 1,264
I've been vegan for about 8 or so years with one lapse happening a few years back for about a month due to moving countries (it's pretty hard being vegan when you can't understand lol). What I've noticed from most people who "fail" is that they only do it for health reasons or they're following a trend with no true purpose (not saying it's a trend, but we have received a lot of attention). I applaud people for trying to make a change, especially since our diets are something that are unique to our upbringing and identity. I will say it's ridiculous to assume that we only eat veggies, when I myself along with many others are or were committed athletes on these diets, and readily eat/ate food enough to fuel our bodies for our commitments- if someone is veg and looking sick, it's probably because they're eating the nutritional density for a small animal and not a fully grown person. Also also, the cook time and cost of my meals is about half of what others around me use for their meals. I'm a poor graduate student and a musician, yet still manage to eat everything I want to - my hair is luscious, booty thicc, skin clear, teeth bright, and mind focused Whether we as people are designed to eat meat, evolved to our present-day selves due to eating meat (which I mean we did technically- it was the only option at the time), or are habituated into eating meat due to our cultures, it's fairly irresponsible for us to assume that the current level of meat eating and environmental degradation that is happening due to its cultivation is okay. I'm not the person to force others to change, but science does back what needs to be done for long-term, progressive change. If meat eating was a small-scale production via family owned farms, it would be better, but as a previous post showed, that's literally impossible for us to sustain. That’s incredibly racist but I’m not surprised. These numbers are bad because India is a third world country with a huge income gap, almost 30% of our population lives in poverty. Do you want them to be perfect models of health? We’re talking about the average citizen and I’m sorry to inform you that we’re doing pretty well. At least we’re not suffering with borderline obesity like a certain nation.

India is more of a developed country in my eyes, just because it neighbours Bangladesh does not mean it is a third world country. Its like Turkey in my eyes. My point wasn't racist, using the current health facts of India isn't racist at all. I never put anyone down or mocked the health stats from India or mocked the people of India just because they're Indian. I am pretty sure if the majority of the Indian people ate better, their health would also get better. Being vegan has shown that you are more likey to become ill... and as someone said that you said most of india is vegan... Obesity is caused by eating too many foods that contain sugars (vegetables, soy, fruits, and any carbohydrate) and yes, some western cultures have a huge obesity issue... but it is not caused by eating meat or eating a meat based diet. Where are you getting your numbers from? India might be one of the world’d richest countries but again the wage gap is HUGE. We have the highest percentage of people who can’t even afford a meal. They’re not sick because they are vegan, they are sick because they are hungry. They live on the streets, they don’t have drinking water let alone anything else. And they are a huge part of our population. Do you expect them to be healthy?

I dont expect eveyone in India to be as fit as a fiddle, and like you have just said, India has a high population of people in poverty so of course illness would be common among those people. But from a country that is 'vegan', and supposedly vegan diets are super healthy, I did expect the country to be healthier. End Racism Now

If vegans didn't talk to people with such disrespect, then this issue would not exist. You can't abuse other people and then say 'iTs MaKiNg Me AnGrY'. If you come for someone, they will come for you, no matter how significant you think your point is. Simple as. I understand it's a movement and the intention is to stop meat consumption, but I remember that PETA advert calling meat eaters 'weak ass mother****ers'. Like seriously? That's how you're going to get people to stop eating meat? People have eaten meat from the very start so you're calling billions of people who have lived on the earth 'twats'? Sounds about right. Reveal hidden contents PETA referenced video: No one in this thread is being militant. Very few meat eaters experience militant vegans. They think that being confronted with facts and reality is uncomfortable, but that's completely different. Meat eaters are very misinformed about the facts of their diet on their health, the environment, and the animals they eat. And so when they say eating meat is "required" or the "animals like being raised for slaughter cause they are free-range and eat grass" or "vegans are unhealthy" or "eating meat is healthier" or "B12 is only in animals" or "animals get B12 naturally " or "sugar is the only thing unhealthy in the american diet," it's gonna annoy us. That's not a problem with vegans being "militant", it's a problem with meat eaters being delusional.
Dominic 11,922
I think anyone cutting down their meat consumption is a good thing. If you choose to eat meat go for it but make an effort to reduce the criminal industy standards of mass slaughter. We can all make a conscious effort to do that regardless of which 'side' you are on 🙄 I don't get why people get so embarrassing when it comes to vegetarians/vegans though. Like "juice steak, tasty meat" comments. It's just cringe and immature, shows you have no real knowledge of the subject. If you're actively trying to discourage people from fighting against the industry then you need to evaluate, seriously. Trying to throw in those statistics and, out of your own ignorance, root out the cause as their diet is laughable.
