Racist because they dont like lizzo? Lol im an african american woman and i dnt care for lizzo. According to you im self hating then because i hate her style of rap? No i dislike her because the song isnt good enough to beat the record yet alone be a #1 because of a memeable lyric lol the op post showed that the media tried to make this a race war like they do with everything just to keep us seperated.

nobody said anything of that nature.
nobody said you can’t have an opinion against lizzo. And if i said I feel straight people can say f*g and began with “well im gay and i feel that-“ that doesn’t necessarily make that okay

my point is when white people come into this thread immediately saying things like “my guess is her dethroning it would be good because shes black” and then proceeding to say you don’t see how it means anything is privilege at its finest

im not trying to police your blackness by any means - im policing my fellow white people who attempt to microagressively police black excellence. Minorities can in fact be happy for being on top when white is the norm. There’s nothing wrong with that and it’s good to see for younger people who face oppression

EDIT and also a lot of monsters tend to be very racist and microaggressive/in denial about it

Thank you for inserting yourself, but the OP including a video that contains a screenshot from one article about the topic is an extremely tenuous link for justifying this as part of the discussion, as if everyone was making that point. So it's not inaccurate. Clutching at straws.

Not everyone has to make the point for it to be worthy. If anyone's clutching at straws, you are. Just in a different way. You're clutching at straws to frame me for being racist.

By the way, @SKANK , thanks for defending me so much. I sometimes feel like no one has my back here, especially right now. I'm glad that someone just reads a situation calmly and logically and makes their own conclusions and doesn't let other people's (sometimes uninformed) opinions form their own.

You're a mighty joke. It's hilariously obvious what your intentions are as it's the first thing that you run to whenever you get a chance. Your whole shtick of "why can't all women succeed?" falls apart as soon as there's a black woman to criticise. For someone that "loves music" you prove time and time again to know sweet FA about it. It's truly embarrassing to witness.

Here's a thought - maybe I wouldn't talk about race so often if racism wasn't so prevalent, not such a hot button issue. But it exists and it's woven into our lives, whether it's people being racist or racism being criticised. I never talked about race like I do these days because it wasn't as culturally relevant 3 years ago. But if everyone's talking about it, it becomes your interest too, part of daily life. So of course I think about it and talk about it more than I ever have. Just because I'm not a big fan of Lizzo's song doesn't mean that I dislike her for her race or her as a person, I think it's great another woman's got a #1 rap song, I just wish it could've been a song I actually liked. I just said I don't think she's going to be around that long and I'd rather one hit wonders didn't break records. I've said harsh things about many white artists but you choose to zero on the times I do it to black artists and act like it's only a problem then. I notice, by the way, that no one speaks about Cardi getting two #1's recently like it's on the same level, is it because she's black Hispanic? I'm just wondering why people are acting like Lizzo's the first black woman to achieve a rap #1 when she was pipped last year. When have I proven I know nothing about music? You've never even asked me about it. I've been studying it for the last 7 years, examining trends as well as listening to the actual music, so I can make predictions about who's going to stay around. Plenty of other people appreciate it, even if you don't. I have nothing to be embarrassed of. I'm embarrassed for you, the way you routinely show yourself up whenever you start running me down. Celebrities may be fair game but I don't make a habit of bringing down members of a forum who aren't asking to be judged in the same way.

If you were referring to me with this statement, I can assure you I have no problem with anyone's race, I'm just here for good music and wish people wouldn't unnecessarily make it about race. It's been a problem that women in general in rap have struggled for years to get #1's, not just black women. Why can't we just be happy for women getting to the top no matter what race they are? Minorities can be happy that one of their own is at the top but they can do so without actively trying to bring down whites in the process. Take success with grace. Taking others down to make you feel better will always feel bittersweet. I sometimes think racism is misread often on this forum when people are merely just treating races equally and being just as harsh on minorities in the same way that they're harsh towards whites.

I don’t know what to say to you other than you don’t realize how easy it is for white women which is why it’s such a bigger deal for a black woman to be successful to the black demographic. It only makes sense.

It depends what area of life you're speaking of. I can certainly say that my race hasn't helped me one iota in life because I've achieved next to nothing of what I've wanted to do, it just seems to work out for everyone else. As far as the music industry goes, its never been easier for a black woman to succeed, music of black origin is all the rage again and it's the white girls who are struggling to get the success they once did. If you'd made this complaint back in 2008-2013, I'd get that but black emancipation songs are where it's at right now and black artists are slaying so it's strange that in this era we're actually complaining about black women struggling. Iggy's the first and only white female rapper to get a #1 hit in all these years and she fell away immediately afterwards. In fact, I think only a handful of white men - Vanilla Ice, Eminem and Macklemore (maybe Snow at a push) - have ever managed to achieve #1's either. Rap #1's have always been the preserve of black men, it's hard for anyone else to reach that height. And even the white men, with the exception of Eminem, all became one hit/one era wonders. Apart from him, every white person who's ever "made it" in rap is now no more. But the black rappers managed to hold onto success for years and still are. This is the way its always been, so I've never been able to understand where this argument comes from about whites are in danger of taking over the genre and how it's so much easier for them. Nothing could be further from the truth. And it doesn't help that most people laugh at us when we show an interest in rap because it's seen as "not for us" and we have to work so much harder to be taken seriously. We have to be twice as good as any black rapper to be considered half as good.

girl... again... idk what to say to you. It doesn’t work like “You are white so im going to give you this.” People grow up in different environments and most POC are taught that they have to work much harder than white people in order to even be noticed. You really need to humble yourself, please. Hard for white girls to be successful? Yes i understand in rap but honestly the thing you aren’t comprehending is there’s so much more for white people. So much more oppurtunity. If Iggy wanted to be a model or a pop star heavily autotuned she easily could be. But i really think you’re just not gonna understand and you’re going to continue to arrogantly look the other way with a victim mentality/playing it oblivious

Well, if it doesn't work like that, then what else are you trying to imply about whites have it easy? Do you ever stop to think that there can actually be no race hierarchy in an all-white area because everyone's of the same kind, therefore on the same level and no one stands out, therefore, everyone's being judged properly? That's the best way to look at it when it comes to job competition for sure. And it's difficult not to be noticed when you're the only black person in a sea of white people so I don't get how you'd have to work harder to be merely "noticed." I am humbling myself - I've just said I've basically not achieved anything I've set out to do in life, that's the definition of being humble. I've never said that whites don't have opportunity but I think it's overblown like I stated previously with saying that when you're all the same kind, you just blend in and don't stand out. Minorities have the opportunity, but just like whites, they don't always get it and no, it's no always for their race. White people actually have to go away from failed opportunities and work out how they can make themselves better, minorities are hard-wired to believe that it was purely their race and nothing to do with their lack of qualifications/expertise/attitude which could be a big reason why they're missing out on opportunities. I'm turning 30 at the end of the year and still haven't had a job. Think about that when you say there's so much more opportunities for whites. It's hard for us all out there right now when it comes to achieving anything. For your information, Iggy actually tried to do a pop thing before she became a rapper and it didn't work out, so that kinda flies in the face of her being able to go the stereotypical white girl paths (notice you went right for the stereotypes of model and popstar?) and it takes more than being skinny to be a model, it's all about connections now, which Iggy didn't have. So, no, popstar and model wouldn't be easy opportunities for her. You might not have noticed but being a pretty face is no longer a viable route to success these days, you need more, especially if you're a woman. I'm not "arrogantly looking the other way," I'm being compassionate and realistic. And I hate it when people unnecessarily victimise themselves, so I wouldn't do that. I'm not victimizing, I'm just stating facts.
