Anyone who denies icon status to people like Beyonce, Adele, Rihanna, Taylor, Bieber, maybe even Katy and others is LYING. There’s no sense of individuality or artistry in her music as it’s made to focus on her voice. Not the subject matter, not the lyrics, not the instrumentation, not the beats, not anything other than the voice. Her music was merely a means to profit off of people with pedestrian music taste while she pursues acting as her main career. I don’t want Gaga to be like Barbara. I want the music to be a priority and I want it to be her primary creative outlet rather than an afterthought or a side project. And Elton is wrong. You can be a star through the sole power of your music. That’s why Madonna, Michael Jackson, Prince, David Bowie, and Freddie Mercury are legends. I want Gaga to be like that.
