It's no surprise that all his albums have been selling worse than the last. He hypes his fans up and then re-jigs the concept and fails to release it when planned. A joint album with Chance The Rapper (Good Ass Job) was supposed to come late last year, there's been no word of it since. He famously announces an album name and title then changes the album name and title multiple times (The Life Of Pablo went through 3 previous announced titles I believe). Every time he goes back on his word, it ruins the credibility of the project. Everything he's released after My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy has been worse reviewed than the last and they're getting largely ignored by the public. I personally think he stopped making good music after Yeezus and judging by his sales going downhill after his debut, the public agrees as well.

To me, it's when he went full-on pretentious and avant garde and I just couldn't get into it. He's only gone further down that route ever since, high on the "insane genius" moniker that he was gifted. I think he's surrounded by a team of yes people and it doesn't help him have realistic expectations.

They're a mess but at least he releases

Is that before or after he announced an album last year letting it go weeks past the announced release date only to find out he hadnt even started recording? :bon:

Yeezus wasn’t pretentious to you? :rip:

I am a GOD :air:

I love most of his music no matter how pretentious it is tbh. I think he’s a great producer

There's a difference between pretentious and egotistical. While the likes of I Am A God is certainly egotistical (in fact, the whole album pretty much is), as long as it contains great lines and a great beat, I can deal with it. Yeezus contained lots of killer beats and his lyrics were straightforward and easy to understand. But now his beats and terrible/ forgettable and I don't even know what he's singing about half the time. And when lyrics are hard to follow, that's pretentious. And a great producer? Almost everything he puts out involves samples, so it's other people's greatness he's using. Having a good ear for a good beat is different to actually producing original good beats.

I mostly agree with this, but don’t discredit some of TLOP. Ultralight Beam is genuinely one of my favourite songs by anyone. I also love Famous and a couple other songs off that project, but yes for the most part, his albums are getting worse and worse.

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

Although I agree that half of the album isn’t all that great (especially compared to his releases before), imo Yeezus is by far his most pretentious work. For some reason the pretentiousness Of yeezus worked better for me than TLOP, but still
