AOC unveils ambitious plan to address economic inequality, "A Just Society"

Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez unveiled a six-part policy proposal titled “A Just Society.”

The package is the follow-up to her pace-setting Green New Deal plan, which set the bar high for the kind of environmental action young progressives demand. “A Just Society” has a similar goal, but for economic equality, and offers a simple but profound framework: “America today is at its wealthiest point in its entire history. In a modern, moral, and wealthy society, no person should be too poor to live,” said Ocasio-Cortez in a video announcing the program. “That’s what a ‘just society’ means to me.”

She divided the proposal into six separate policy areas, which together aim to tackle everything from accessible housing and poverty to ending discrimination against the formerly incarcerated.

The current system is stalled. Rich get richer and the middle class is becoming non existant. At this point, id rather try something that might fail than continue with a broken system that is only getting worse.

Well she's one of the most poular politicians in the US, having far higher approval ratings than Republican and Democratic leaders so she's clearly doing something right. 

But coming from someone who has nothing better to contribute than mockery and laughter to real issues, that probably doesn't mean much to you.

To be clear this is not about what i agree or disagree with her but just on ur point...

 

popularity doesnt necessairily mean anything plus isnt she only a senator? Its much easier to have higher approval ratings that way vs if u become president and then get hit with all the blame for what goes wrong whether ur not ur responsible 

 

this comment isnt directed at the plan tho. I didnt read the link yet. I was refering only to taking approval rating reference of whether someone is doing something right or not

Im not a big fan of a lot of her extreme ideas but as far as this specific set of plans I actually agree with most

 

for example the plan on incarceration i always thought something simmilar. If someone already did their time, theres no need to keep punishing them and making it almost impossible for them to succeed and make it more likely they will just return to crime

 

the idea to take the poverty line to adjust for cost of living by geographical area makes sense. U might get by on $40,000 a year on Indiana or Kansas but good luck with that wage in LA or NYC
