They isn't just plural anymore. It has been added to the dictionary as a singular pronoun.

If you are non-binary, you are a person. It doesn't matter what you identify as, and for that being said I'm also tired of identifying as gay, bi, or straight. Most of the division that's happening now I feel is because gays feel the need to scream that they are gay through extravagant clothing, trying too hard to be different. I'm not saying that some don't wear it because they like it, but some if not most are just attention seeking.

we need language for non-binary people. It's not easy to do but...this is how language works. it evolves. That's not a reason to dismiss people's identities. People's identities matter -- labels matter and help people make sense of themselves and each other. It helps them find support. Especially when certain groups are targeted. You won't end bigotry by ignoring people's identities. Bigots will still hate who they hate.

You know... Merriam Webster isn't a reference to language tbh. It's cool and all but normally the go to is the oxford one. 

The Oxford English Dictionary is the principal historical dictionary of the English language

Singular you has become normal and unremarkable. ... And the New Oxford American Dictionary (Third Edition, 2010), calls singular they 'generally accepted' with indefinites, and 'now common but less widely accepted' with definite nouns, especially in formal contexts. Not everyone is down with singular they.

Everyone is down with using singular they, even unintentionally, people use it with no problem whatsoever. It’s only when it is about non-binary people, that society suddenly gives a lot of shits about grammar.
