Addiction is often times based on trauma (as in Gaga's case her family history and later sexual assult, for ones, I assume). So when you are dealing with and healing your trauma, your relationship to addiction changes. Alcoholic is a person with trauma that has been left unaddressed. Rumi said it, and Jane Austen too.
