Wait I'm confused. Isn't Japan considered one of the most populated countries?

Yes. Second most in the developed world after the US and in a much smaller space

But a rapidly declining population has big negative economic impacts

There is a good documentary about the sex life in Japan on Netflix. I dont recall the name but it was a series from bbc I think. Their culture and lifestyle is killing them.

Japan is the embodiment of “F*ck them kids”

I mean other developed nations birth rates are not that much higher. While 1.44 per woman is exeptionally low, much of the developed world is between 1.5 and 1.8

France and some Scandinavian Countries have a rate above that range.

But most of the developed world and even a few developing countries have birth rates far below the replacement rate including: USA, Canada, Germany, UK, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Romania, Belgium, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zelanad, China, Russia, Ukraine and of course Japan

Those are just the ones I remember theres more Im sure

USA and Australia from that list are a little higher (tho still below the replacement level) while Japan, Germany and Italy are the lowest

Its just that in Japan the lower birth rates have been around longer so they are feeling the decline already that other developed nations have not yet hit

Also they take in few immigrants compared to many developed nations so they dont compensate their low birth rates with new commers

Why is Japanese birth rate so low?

Most of the developed world is only a little bit higher than this

Japan is only having faster population decline issues because #1 their birth rate declines happened longer ago so with older generations that were born in larger groups now dying off, the decline has began

#2 most wealthy nations accept enough immigrants to offset natural decline while Japans xenophobic culture accepts too few to help

Their xenophobic attitude preventing larger immigration doesnt help

If theres a country that desperately needs more immigration, its them

If they didnt retire at 60 and the female labor force participation rate wasnt so low then perhaps males 20-60 wouldnt have to work such rediculous hours

Its also ludicrous that the Country in the world with the oldest aged population and fastest shrinking labor force has their population retiring at 60

For goodness sake people aged 100 or more is their fastest growing demographic group, 20%  of their population is already over 70 and by 2030 over 2/3 will be over the age of 50

How does their government not get that a retirement age at 60 isnt sustainable for them?

They already have the highest debt burden in the world (230% of GDP, about double the US debt ratio) and run insane deficits because their retirement system and medical costs are surging while their working population paying taxes is shrinking

@Morphine Prince @Woolfsmck @Luc how does a country in Japans situation even fix itself?

I feel like they are doomed to inevitable collapse one day

They have been printing lots of money since 2000 (they invented QE money printing.which the world tried in 2008), almost 30 years of stagnant economic growth, no inflation... This is not normal :triggered:

The only reason they havent collapsed yet is because deflation and shrinking businesses make stocks a poor investment and shrinking population makes real estate a poor investment as well so their old conservative investors just invest in government bonds

As a result despite a rediculous debt load so far Japan manages to borrow plenty and at very low interest rates

The government should subsidize the price of ENIGMA tickets based on the number of children you have. So 1 kid = 10% off, 2 kids = 20% off, and so on. If you have more than 5 kids you should receive an exclusive ENIGMA backstage rehearsal experience. Population levels will be back to normal in no time.

I mean at this point they're gonna have to start subsidizing the price of an ENEMA with the proportion of their population over 70 :huntyga:

Buy 1 Enigma ticket, get 1 Enema free :poot:

Decadence ..  middle working class can retire early because they make a lot of money.

Poorer economies have older retirement levels because the middle class is poorer or nonexistent.

Well, I don't think this is that bad, there are already too much population there (and in the world in general, but mostly Asia), so I think it's great that population in decreasing

I'm only good at being bad

I think most people think it’s bad because of disappearing culture. But Japan has a saying of “born shinto, live nonreligious, wed christian, die buddhist”

And they love to share their culture despite xenophobia and racism towards biracial japanese (look up racism towards Hafu and Ariana Miyamoto when she won Miss Japan)

Pure race ideology runs very deep in certain parts of Japan.

The youth of Japan don’t agree with the old ways and having children early in life is a huge thing in many Asian cultures that millennials and gen z are like whatever granny.
