I'm not sure what you mean by that? Could you explain> Are you American? Are you speaking for all Americans, or just yourself?

I'm not American, but I noticed many times that if, for example, a person from Spain says that they love Spain, the flag and everything about their country, many Americans starts to call them fascists and right-wing people.

I think you may be confusing nationalism and patriotism.

No, that's the point, I know they are not related, you can love your country but disagree with the nationalism inside it, but many American don't seem to understand this separation when it comes to other countries.

Hmmm I honestly don’t know. I’d have to see some examples of what you’re referring to in order to get the full context.

Because many Americans are nationalists and they think they’re just being patriots.

People who say they are in the middle tend to be republican... Anyway we stan

Only by comparison 'cause you're either on the left or you're wrong :huntyga:

One side fights for equal rights, protection from discrimination, freedom of choice and voice, inclusiveness, safety, against poverty, for education, for full healthcare coverage, etc etc and the other side is ironically named "the right" :ohwell:

Idk her (I'm not a fan) but if she has stans here then she's likely a liberal, she just doesn't want to commit to the label. Which is fine, tbh. She doesn't have to, as long as she's not hateful then it's whatever. She can believe whatever she wants, just like the rest of us :tony:

Because the lines between the two have been blurred by people like Trump.

I love my country. I've always been proud to be an American and I wouldn't choose anywhere else to live. But I know we can do a hell of a lot better. And saying that paints me, in some eyes, as an anti-American traitor that wants the terrorists to win :ohwell:

Nationalism is a disease that seems to be disguised as patriotism. Not only in America anymore either.

People really need to learn the difference between nationalism and patriotism.

Patriot- good

Nationalist- not good.

Because many Americans are nationalists and they think they’re just being patriots.

For example, many Americans tends to mix between the love for the country and the actions of the governments or even the past of the country.

Like now an Italian says "I love Italy, the flag, the language", many Americans, democrats or republicans, would associate this love to hating immigrants, nationalism, Lega supporter and so on.

It's like only American can love everything about their country but still get away with the "nationalism".

And my own example, I'm not saying "I love Israel" anymore because I was constantly attacked and became the bff of Netanyahu, but yes, I love this place, I was born there, I love the food, the climate, I hate the anthem but flag though, but I love many things, it doesn't make me a controversial and extreme right human being..

Yeah this is what I'm trying to say in some sense, we all get the right to love our country without it being look like we are some vicious people that kick out immigrant kids and bombing buildings every weekend.. the countries are were we were born, our families, friends, everything, we have the right to love it, we have the right to disagree with our governments too but still love them, we just don't need some annoying people tells us that this love is wrong while they are proudly loving America because it's *in an arrogant tone* America.

Thanks for saving me the $10 this Friday, Lana :lana:

I mean, I had always thought she was performing a character and parodying Americana whilst making some chill, nostalgic and enjoyable music but I didn't realize she too it so seriously and/or was either more conservative or so very neo-liberal.   I will still listen to her albums I already own and may stream her new one but I certainly won't be purposefully or directly paying for her concerts or albums in the near future.  She does have the right to voice her views, to be sure.

Thank goodness for Bernie and Cardi B, though :diane:

And to those saying politics can stay out of it, "The personal is political" -- read up on that second and third wave feminism ya'll.

So you support musicians for their political position not for their music?

I swear it's like everyone who has experienced a Cancer in their life is traumatized by them :selena: I guess they can be proud about the fact that they leave a scar on people for life with their emotional manipulation and trauma so congrats to them I guess :selena:

She almost certainly is. She was a strong supporter of Obama and eventually Hillary, is pro LGBT, black people, etc. and "Aligns with most liberal principles in regards to oppression" and things of that nature. Can't confirm but I'm pretty sure her family (the grants) supported Bernie initially in 2015-16 as well. I'm pretty sure she just is another wealthy white woman that thinks the word "liberal" means more than it does, like she's probably a Capitalist that believes in the sanctity of the American dream and all it promises and was raised with Republican parents and conservative ideals, but she's socially liberal so there's dissonance that makes her decide to be a centrist. Her mistake was in saying "not a liberal or a Republican", when she should've said "democrat or a republican" - she's an independent/centrist that has to our knowledge always  leaned democrat, which is common when they actually vote.

We can have debates about the role of centrists in an imbalanced political sphere another time, but this doesn't really bother me. She's definitely become more active and aware about politics under the Trump administration, which is really the best we could hope for from someone of her status - not just as a celebrity, but as a privileged white woman (Sans outright political intervention, her endorsing candidates, etc.). She now likes the term feminist, and later in this exact same interview said that Right Now in America is the time where people should be standing up and protesting and a return to protest music feels very appropriate right now for the culture. "The greatest" is about the degradation of American culture, something that she is very attached to aesthetically. "Looking for America" is a pro gun control song :rip: God Bless America was a song about women having solidarity against misogyny and rape culture. Just the other day she alluded that "Hope is A Dangerous Thing For a Woman Like Me to Have But I Have It" is a song that was not only about her past and state of mind, but also about the #MeToo movement and how she has always felt like sexism and shady dealings in the industry were a problem but that she only recently feels like she can speak up about it and be heard... She stopped using American flags and other generic american memorabilia/paraphernalia in her tours because she has begun to question what that stands for today... She's a liberal by her actions 100%, even if her words betray her :deadbanana:

RAMROD

Oh wow, so all her albums have been soundtrack of Lana Republicana, the Brooklyn Baby, in The Land Of Gods And Monsters seeking for her American Trump older lover with Big Eyes and Burning Desire in Blue Jeans to lay with her in the Blue Velvet during the Summertime Sadness aka The Blackest Day in his Art Deco mansion in Bel Air, California?!?!?!?!?! :diane:

Looking forward for the new album, to know the continuation of the story!
