i don’t know. Everyone always said “omg remember how bad ARTPOP tanked” but like I remember it very clearly, and it wasn’t as bad as people say it was. Yeah, she wasn’t as critically acclaimed at the time (she had a lot of haters) but ARTPOP outperformed almost every single album released that year. 

Very true. The negativity surrounding Gaga with the press and the public was a huge part of the problem during the ARTPOP era. And it was a very dark time for Gaga too. 

Joanne on the other hand felt like a much more positive era, despite not performing better commercially than ARTPOP. Gaga herself was just in a better place and by then she had started to showcase her vocal talent so she was in a better light with the GP.

It's like when people ask me what song reflects Gaga, Scheisse would be one of the first songs I would mention. It's one of her most iconic sounding sounds.

I can’t with the Scheisse pushers in this thread. It’s a great fan favorite but it’s not as GP friendly as Hair, Americano or any of the other singles than she actually released from BTW.

One mistep worth mentioning is not releasing a trendy pop album in 2015/2016. There was so much hype from GG win, 2 Oscar performances, national anthem, yet she wasted each time and waited to release Joanne.  Stuff like that set her back in the pop world. She still smashed with ASIB so I guess it didn't matter in the end, but still

Hair was my favourite song when I was in 2011 but now I can't listen to it till the end ,,,I think it aged badly or it was just childish

I love the acoustic version of "Hair" when it's just her and the piano, but the album version on BTW sounds dated to me.

it would be a mistake to release a trendy pop album just for business reasons if your heart wasn't in it.     

So many of the 'misteps' people are claiming in this thread are simply Gaga not playing the usual pop games, but it's only a "mistep" if your only measure of success is based on pop star standard measures such as charts or sales or exposure or whatever.

Gaga clearly uses a different measuring system than many of her fans think she should be using.

True. Though, I'm glad it became what it was essentially destined to become- a highly revered fan-favorite that surprisingly appeared in multiple tours.

And the rescheduled JWT dates should've been moved to the summer instead of January / February

So true, R. Kelly wasn't a problem for her.. The video would've been, and deleting the song wasn't a solution either.

probably been told a lot of times in the thread but seriously, not releasing an album after AISB hype is the worst mistake of her career, she had everything to have a utterly successful album, it hurts, we all know that by the time she releases LG6 gp will be over her again 

 

also not releasing ARTPOP soon enough, EDM was so big in 2012 but by the time AP was released people were sick of EDM sound so ap sounded kind of dated, I know we're talking about broken hip lapse time but honestly if AP was mastered to sound less EDM it'd have a much better success i think

ARTPOP was a mess because of the circumstances surrounding it. It probably woulda been released very early 2013 had it not been for her hip injury, and would have a lot less negative press surrounding it because Interscope wouldn't have had her rerecord tons of demos (i.e. iKoons Fest Sexxx Dreams and MANiCURE). The hip injury really hurt the era a lot, because the trend of heavy EDM  based pop mostly died out by the time the album came out, making the album sound much more dated as a result.

The last time she took advantage of hype was releasing The Fame Monster. She tried to use the hype from the Super Bowl to launch John Wayne, but Million Reasons got the attention from the GP instead.
