BUtterfield 8 41,466
Monday's kudocast on MTV drew 1.93 million viewers and a 0.9 rating among adults 18-49. That's an all-time low for the flagship channel, down from the previous low — set last year — of 2.25 million viewers and a 1.1 in the demo. The VMAs have hit all-time ratings lows in each of the past three years. The MTV telecast was off by 14 percent in viewers and 18 percent in adults 18-49, somewhat smaller declines than either of the past two years — when the total audience fell by 18 percent and 18-49 ratings by more than 20 percent each time. Complete viewership numbers for all 12 channels tallies 4.9 million, also down about 6 percent from last year's 5.2 million viewers (on 10 channels). The awards ceremony also recorded big gains in social and online video views, which were up 85 percent year to year and a key point of emphasis in reaching the network's core young-adult audience. Social engagement around the VMAs also more than doubled year to year in the month leading up to the awards, per figures from Conviva Social Insights. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/amp/live-feed/vmas-hit-all-time-ratings-low-3rd-straight-year-1234937?__twitter_impression=true

alextruper17 8,908
I think it’s not just because of the bad quality but also because of the era we’re living in. Ten years ago it was a little bit more difficult to watch the show, so we tried to watch it live. Not gonna lie, there were also better artists and their craft was better nowadays, if you can’t see the show at that specific time, there’s no problem because videos will be on the internet. And you can see only the things that you care about without watching the full show. in fact, that’s what I do sometimes with these type of shows. I hate American commercials because there is literally 5 minutes of content and 5 minutes of commercials. That’s why I rather see videos on Twitter. And MTV has decided to publish the full performances in very good quality in their YouTube Channel, so. HoneyB 27,926
That sucks, the performances were pretty good tbh. No one really checks for awards shows anymore tbh we’ve gotten to the point we’re people aren’t as entertained anymore also I feel like less people watch TV I showed my parents the performances just now and when I showed them the señorita performance the first thing that my mom asks is if Shawn is gay- mind you she has no idea who he is I literally SCREAMED They weren’t impressed by Normani’s I’m so disappointed 💋 𝕊𝕥𝕖𝕡 𝕐𝕒 ℂ𝕠𝕠𝕜𝕚𝕖𝕤 𝕌𝕡💋🍪

Inferno 2,880
People need to stop with this. Everyone knows you peep performances and key moments through youtube or other forms of social media at this point. You don't necessarily just sit and watch the whole show anymore. Like it is what it is. Thus why I think they put more effort in making the performances look like music videos so they look good when re-watching online. Guest
Yikes lol Jeffrey Star gets more views than that on a single video... they really should’ve streamed the awards live on YouTube with ads so they could’ve made money & got more views, I def would’ve watched if it were streamed. Literally none of my friends watch tv & neither do I. The only stuff we watch on tv is Netflix YouTube HBO Now etc. Clearly the tv platform is dying out & media is/has evolved to streaming. gagaisitalian 3,573
This isn't a surprise and isn't MTV or the VMAs fault. This is the direction of all TV programs. If Netflix, HBO or Disney+ hosted the VMAs it would be a different story, lmao.
