I swear I only see non-Latinos using it.

I understand it’s a gender neutral term but Spanish is not a gender neutral language.

Masculine words are the default in Spanish. Latino, Latina, Latinos. That’s it.

You could argue against it but that’s literally how the language is and I haven’t heard people complaining about it before.

Sure it’s a product of a binary society but unless someone specifies they want to be called Latinx, I won’t be calling anyone that.

Yeah I feel the same way about "Hispanic". I date and am friends with a lot of Latino/a/x/y/z/a and none of them prefer "Hispanic" even though it's supposed to be PC or whatever. I've also asked them about Latinx and half of them didn't even know what it meant.

I think it's just another way to confuse others and then they get called out for being racist, ignorant, or something.

Hispanic is commonly used in the US. Just means Spanish speaking. It’s not “PC.”

In the Portuguese language we also have masculine and feminine for most words as well even objects

For example a toilet (sanita) is feminine while a baking oven (fugão) is masculine. It's just a language thing. It's not even for people necessarily regular everyday objects have it too

Now if someone is specifically uncomfortable with the word because of how they identify, by all means I have no issue accommodating them and calling them latinx

But the majority of people like being refered to he or she. Because the vast majority of people like to be identified by the sex of their birth and only a relatively small percentage identify as non binary or transgender

By calling everyone latinx ur actually taking away how most people would want to be refered to for the fear of the odd person you may offend

In English we call people he or she... I know if we started using a gender neutral world instead I wouldn't like it. I identify as a man and I want to he called he
