I like some of her stuff, but I don’t care about her enough to ever hate on her. I also don’t think it’s appropriate to hate on someone in general especially when we don’t even know her on a personal level. I’m concerned about the sexual misconduct allegations surfacing now—concerned that they’re coming up now and confused as to why exactly now.

In any case, people hating on her need to do some soul-searching. I’ve noticed the same people bashing Katy and other female artists are the same ones that get upset when others hate on Gaga. Funny how that works right?

If you look at Gaga's early career, she too also used gimmicks to achieve success. When she came out with Just Dance, she put on an accent and had her dancers posing in the background at every interview. In the Barbera Winters interview she said she doesn't normally take off her sunglasses. Why? Because she wanted to act like she already made it. Its a gimmick. The meat dress along with every other piece of iconic wear were all gimmicks.

Both Katy and Gaga relied on gimmicks on the early part of her career.

Also, you have got to mention Gaga's problematic behaviour. Nobody is perfect. Why did Gaga work with R.Kelly when she knew about the sex crimes he did? Why did Gaga sit with a group of people wearing blackface and take photos with them?

These sexual misconduct accusations against Katy are false... and while she has made mistakes in her past, she has obviously grown into a better person. She is not the same Katy as she was back in 2011.  Just like Gaga has grown from her mistakes.

The hate against her is definitely 100% warrented.

Its sad you think hate is the answer  , and the kind of things religious wars get started over.

I'm just gonna say... She does not have a real pure fanbase like Gaga, Selena G, Britney... but apparently she did not know that when she decided to release Witness.  The Success that she had with Teenage Dream and Prism was thanks to the kids. All her music videos were baby friendly, even Dark Horse was pink when i really was expecting a witchcraft kind of video after that Amazing Grammy Performance. Those kids are no longer kids. If you analyze other artist like Gaga, Rihanna, Beyonce, Ariana... they all had a different approach and still being relevant. You can not sell politics to kids. They do not understand that. I love Katy, just to clear that out. Bye.

I don't see anyone "hating on" her, I just see a general lack of interest in what she does and in the music she's putting out. She's done the same thing over and over one too many times, people don't care anymore.

Someone like Lady Gaga constantly reinvents herself and is constantly evolving, keeping people interested, if Gaga is the Queen of Reinvention, Katy is like the Queen of Repetition. And my bible studies has taught me Hell is repetition. Katy needs to do something to shame the devil or she'll continue to fizzle out.

Katharine Hepburn

I think people dislike her because people don't feel she has anything to say as an artist while theres so much undiscovered talent.

Personally I think Katy is corny and live for the shade but I wouldn't say I hate her or even dislike her

Also people are still salty about Roar Vs Applause

Katy has done a lot of things for pop culture. I Kissed  A Girl was the first mainstream song to explore the themes of Bisexuality.

To say she hasnt done anything for the culture is a crime. Literally when I was growing up through highschool the two main girls where Gaga and Katy. Many people grew up with these artists

Katy has never contributed anything significant to the culture and hasn’t started any social movements. She only openly supported gay rights after Gaga made it cool to do so. She only became socially conscious after every pop star was expected to be. She never stood for anything as a person and never stood for anything as an artist. She doesn’t really have any classics except maybe Teenage Dream, every other song is forgotten.

Katy Perry is hardly hated to the same damning degree that Lady Gaga or Madonna or any number of her peers or predecessors have been. She still gets away with a lot and again, if tomorrow she releases some undeniable little bop and places her extensions over her large protruding breasts, the song will go top 5 at least. Things have been insanely easy for her throughout her career and success has been handed to her with a silver spoon and most likely will continue to even if not to the same extent as 2010/11 and even despite the fact that shes completely void of any semblance of authenticity or creativity and approaches pop music purely from a corporate perspective.

What makes all of you believe that Katy's lack of success is because of her hair color/length? I see this comment made over and over about her.. gaga went back to the platinum blonde bang during ARTPOP, very TF-esque, and nobody cared...

Even me, who's always been one of her biggest critics, thinks the hate's gone too far now. It's safe to say that she's done, so why keep kicking a girl when she's down? Granted, this is all stemming from me feeling the urge to be kinder to her now she's no longer a chart threat, so I'm not really one to talk. But I can understand why people want to bring down someone who's on top but Katy was brought down 2 years ago and has never recovered, so it's not like being mean to her is going to make things any worse for her, right?

I don't think it's all because of the hair length but it is a major factor. Gaga is different because she was never regarded by many as conventionally pretty so her various hairstyles have no impact on the public's view of her. But right from the start, Katy's image has been that of the sex kitten. She relied on that sexual image at a time when being a pretty face was all it took to get a hit. Because of this, the public grew to see hotness as something crucial to her brand. When she cut her hair and dyed it, she looked different, far too different and in a way that the public didn't find attractive. A non-attractive Katy Perry wasn't part of the deal in their minds. Her looks were just as much a part of her brand as her music was. It's the big downside to being thought of as an attractive young singer. If/when your looks go, your fans tend to go with it. It's why I'm kinda glad looking back on it now that Gaga wasn't held up the same standard of beauty. It meant that the public concentrated on her music and talent and gave her respect as a songwriter meaning she's been able to have success to this day. Relying on your looks to sell your music doesn't work when you lose them further down the line. Looks fade, talent is forever.

It's just her turn. Ariana and Cardi B  are next. Yall know this. Build them up and tear them down. Some stars don't recover. Some do.
