It would be great if this happened to a few hundred smarmy young men. Will the USA finally take their Red Flag Ordinances and FBI Tip Lines seriously? Or will this happen once or twice for the media to devour and then it is completely forgotten? My money is unfortunately on the latter.

It's something new that is being discussed as a way to deal with mass shootings. Obviously we can't do anything to legislate the actual possession of weapons, thanks to idealogues on the right and the NRA, but one response that is actually getting support on the right as well as the left is Red Flag Laws, meaning that if a person exhibits certain mental health red flags (posting threatening comments online, minor violent crimes, mental health symptoms) citizens should report them to the FBI tip line.

This is where it breaks down. After that,  SUPPOSEDLY the FBI and local police force are supposed to investigate this person, and if they find probably cause, they can get a warrant and search that person's possessions.  Some laws propose that the accused be placed into a psychiatric hold after that, or put in jail. Unfortunately, the FBI and local police have a tendency to do nothing with these tips. They were tipped about the Orlando nightclub shooter- did nothing. They were tipped about the Parkland High School shooter- did nothing.

This is the first time I've seen them actually do something after getting tipped.

So basicly, you can't deny mentally unstable people their weapons because its against some outdated law that was made during the 1700s when the US were established so let's report these people to the FBI?

.... Yep! That's a pretty good way to put it. 

It's a terrible way to try to deal with it but it's literally one of the ONLY things the Repubs will consider
