Why did Gaga not have more #1s during BTW Era

Think about Taylor with Reputation. BTW (the single) was almost identical to LWYMMD in terms of its success, Ready for It and Judas are essentially the same amount of successful, endgame and you and I (though it out peaked), etc.

People were sick of the Taylor persona, and didn’t like the newer electric sound. Same with gaga. They were sick of Gaga just in general, and were vibing with the stripped down sounds of Adele, and in 2017 they wanted either rap, latin influenced, or Ed Sheeran.

There’s a reason Delicate and TEOG are considered to be the signature hits. They didn’t go number 1, but both songs are arguably better remembered, more fondly remembered, etc. These songs played into what the gp wanted from Gaga and Taylor respectively. They gave the public what they wanted in those songs, and it payed off.

At the end of the day, the albums have very similar reviews, both sold well over a million copies first week, and both had very large sales (BTW with somewhere between 6-8mil, and Rep with 5mil).

Neither are flops, and both are fan favourite albums. They both had MASSIVE tours that broke records. Both artists WERE the biggest stars in the world at the time of their release, but both were definitely overexposed.

I love both albums, and i think the future is gonna be kinder to them than their present.

Because they tried to ride the controversy wave and released Judas as a single...

Had TEOG been the second singe, it could've went #1.

So true.
Rihanna was releasing album every year with 10 singles from 2006 till 2013 and nobody was tired of her. Drake releasing his sh*t all the time and nobody is tired. Ariana releasing an album every 8 months and nobody is tired. The problem was in production and in message that album had.

The difference is in the celebrity status held by each artist.

Gaga was far more famous than the other artists were at the time, and her image was extremely easy to ridicule.

Where as Drake is EVERYWHERE on radio stations, Apple Music, etc. only pop fans notice it, because the gp just feels like they’re hearing a new song, but not having it shoved down their throats.

Gaga with BTW was the definition of overexposed, because she was EVERYWHERE.

You could turn on your tv without seeing her, you couldn’t go to a store without seeing her face on a magazine, you couldn’t turn on your radio without hearing about some taboo thing she was doing. People were literally sick of gaga, but not gaga’s music, gaga’s brand. The same happened with Taylor.

These other artists benefit from the fact that they are very much so music ahead of brand. Ariana releases music all the time, but only pop fans feel like she’s overexposed cause her brand isn’t being thrown down our throats. Same goes with Rihanna. Anti was really the first time Rihanna pushed her brand on the world, and that was after a 4 year break, and she’s been taking 3 years in between her albums to avoid it.
